Okay , well two problems with my new palm 515.
1. Keep it in a hard case, and when I opened it the other day, the screen was dead but the light was on. Read the manual and did a soft reset. Came back to life.
2. Today , I attepted a hotsync-but nothing happens. I uninstalled the palm software and reinstalled it, checked and re-checked all the connections, and the message I get is 'the connection between handheld & PC could not be established'.I'm running windows 98. It has worked fine everyday for the past two weeks.
Never had a problem like this with my handspring visor and am quite disgusted after paying $300+ dollars...
any suggestions?
Also, I looked up SUDS, but my cradle has the "h" sticker on the bottom, so could it still be that? What to do, pack up this piece of crap and send it back to palm?????

Don't give up hope; there may be a solution. First, have you tried simply rebooting your computer. I've noticed that this will sometimes help.
Second, have you made sure that the Palm and the PC are correctly configured to use (presumably) the USB port? If so, go into Control Panel and check to see if the PC is recognizing that you have installed a connection for the Palm.
Third, check your connections -- both on the Palm and the cradle. I have seen situations where the connectors get either (a) misaligned, or (b) dirty -- both of which can cause a problem with sync.
Finally, if you have a friend with a functioing unit, ask to borrow their cradle and see if that works.
Lastly, you should still be under store warranty, so taking it back to the point of purchase is another option.
Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to post a response. Everything seems to check out okay-so I'll try borrowing a cable tomorrow. I'll post the fix (!) once I find out what it is!

Do I understand you to say that when you opened your case the Palm Screen was blank but the power light was on?
And that after the reset your Palm was functional in all ways other than it has lost the ability to hot sync?
If I have both of these points correct, you may well have SUDS even with the new cradle.

Hi DrMud
Yes! You have both of those points correct- that is exactly what happened. Thanks for posting the link.
Palm is sending me a new unit-I called customer service-not technical support! I sent them an email describing the problem, and then referred to that email when I called letting them know that I tried everything they suggested(even though i didn't -one of the 'fixes' seemed a little extreme for a product that was only used two weeks (i.e.-deleting the desktop and altering the registry on my PC)
I'll try the old unit with the new cradle and post the results..

Uninstalliung the desktop and altering registry files may still be necessary when the new unit comes.
