The Americas Standard basemap is so cluttered with airport symbols, that you can't even see the route (in the Pacific Northwest) when you zoom out to the basemap level.
I can't find any option that controls this feature.

I'm as lost as you are. No matter what I turn off, it will not make these airports go away.

Anders,
As you know there was a problem on norwegian topo maps with cluttered icons that somebody managed to clear away.
One solution would be to systematically exchange the symbols for something smaller. Maybe RWSmith123 knows?

I just realized that the symbols I was complaining about are not airports. They are small white circles with a ~ in the middle. They seem to be clustered around marine locations.
I have TideTool installed. Seems unlikely that someting could be picked up from that data base, but who knows.
They only show up a the basemap zoom level, and disappear on the detail map.

OK, its easy then. Goto Prefs - Que - Maps - Marine, and turn Tidestations to Off.

Or if you never want them, use the World Basemap if you have room. I believe that only the America Standard Basemap contains the tide station info.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to take another pass thru all the options to see what else I have missed.

Did that work?
I have tried everything, and only turning off the basemap or setting detail to minimum seems turn off the tide icons. Turning off "tides" in map preferences doesn't seem to affect anything.
I don't want to lose the tide station info - I use that for kayaking.

Ditto here.
I turned off all the options under marine and the icons (white circles with a ~ ) still appear. Perhaps a bug with this version?

Does it say "Basemap" or "Detailed Map" in the lower right hand corner of the map display when you see this behaviour? Can you post a screenshot?

I should have been more specific. Be sure to turn off Tide Stations in both the Text Size and Max Zoom tabs of the Prefs-Que-Maps-Marine page. This will remove those white circles with ~ in the centre from the map display.

Thanks! That was the missing link for me and solved the problem. I think I'm getting an idea about what the Max Zoom is for...
re: reinbeau's asking whether I have Tide Tools. Not yet. I'm dipping my toes into the iQue pool gently (at mean low tide). That may come later.
I've been lurking on the forum for about five weeks and it's been very helpful. And today I got my specific answer in 2-1/2 hours. Great! Thanks. Love the iQue!

Time for me to ask a question: All my boating has been on lakes or ocean cruises (large ships piloted by someone else). How exactly does one use the tide station information? Is it just a way to know when a particular area is shallow?
