Hi
I have many password-protected documents on my Psion which I only have accessed on the Psion for the last year or two on almost a daily basis.
My Psion is completely out of action now, and I am able to retrieve and convert to MSWord/MSExcel all files except those password protected ones - Psiwin complains and skips these.
Is there something I am overlooking or are the contents of these files going to be irretrievable unless I give it to some other 5 owner who will switch off the password and give the files back to me (I obviously don't want to do this)?
Thanks in advance,
Josua

You have to download the emulator on your PC and then you can open your files on your PC

Can you please point me in the direction of this emulator?

www.btinternet.com/~slimsimms/psion/emulators.htm
look for "The EPOC Emulator (ER5)" (size 27 MB: about 2 hours and 30 minutes of download ")
[The Emulator provides a generic emulation of an EPOC Release 5 device, complete with customisable screen sizes including large (800x600), VGA (640x480), and half-VGA (640x240) in colour or greyscale This link takes you to the registration page]
good luck

Hi - thanks for the info, this emulator sounds like just the ticket, and perhaps I would also be able to install RMRBank on it and export the account details to CSV files.
However, the link to the EPOC emulator on the page that you mention above takes you to a place to download a Quartz C++ and Java software developer kit.
Could you suggest an alternative place to look?
Thanks and best regards,

The "emulator" is not normally available as a download on its own, it is part of the SDKs (software development kits). Its main function is supposed to be for the development of EPOC software not for people to have a Psion running on a PC :)
It will only run third party applications if the software author has provided a Wins version of any required OPX files, so don't expect to be able to install all of your Psion applications in the emulator and have them run normally.

If you do want to run applications such as RMRBank then it is probably worth emailing the author so see if they can help you get it up and running in the emulator. Al Richey from RMRSoft sent me the necessary files to get RMRBank running so it is possible.

Thanks for all the help. I am faced with four files:
gcc539src.zip 41.5Mb,
gdb.006b.SymbianOS6.1.zip 17.4Mb,
Quartz.exe 96.3Mb
and a readme file.
I have downloaded all but the 96.3Mb file thus far. What is contained in these files and which (if not all) are necesary to get the emulator running?
I am obviously not looking forward to doing a 96Mb download if I can help it and if it isn't absolutely necessary.
Best regards,
Josua

Josua,
I think that you are looking at completely the wrong files! I think that you have got the files for ER6 (ie the Nokia Communicator) not the ER5 (ie the Psion 5mx, Revo, etc.) files.
Assuming that you want the ER5 emulator you need to do the following ...
1. Go to http://partners.psionteklogix.com/ptxcms/CORE.asp?s=com&p=PartnerProgram and register as a new member. Once this is done log in.
2. From 'Development Kits' on the left hand side of the page choose netpad.
3. From the menu at the top choose 'EPOC Downloads'.
4. Download the Symbian OS V5 OPL SDK (Last change: V2.10 26/03/02) which is 26.5 Mb.
5. Follow the instructions in the downloaded ziip file to install the emulator.
Good luck.

Thanks. It's strange because the link that leads you to the FTP site where the files I mentioned above can be found is labelled "Download the series 5 emulator (EPOC emulator)".
