My Desktop's Hard Disk crashed (R.I.P.), but I managed to save my "Palm" folder with other files on a CD-Rom.

I am now trying to import my old Palm addresses on my laptop, but all I get is the following message: "C:\....\address\AddressExport.aba is not an Address Book archive file or the file is corrupt".

NB: my Desktop was running on WinME, and my laptop is on Win2000. I installed on my laptop both Palm Desktop 3.0.1 and 4.1, but I get the same error message...

Thanks!

PS: my Palm V is dead too, by the way. My 5 month son still denies any involvement...

I don't know if this is how you're trying to view the archive but you should, from the File pulldown menu, choose Open Archive.
In the Open dialog box, select the archive file you want to view.
Click on OK. When you view the records in Palm Desktop, their status bar will display an Archived icon.

If this is how you are attempting to open the archive and you still get the error, the archive really is corrupt (which may have happened earlier when you copied it to the CD) or the address archive was created in the Palm Desktop version 2.x. Version 3.x and above won't read version 2.x files.

Oh, just happened to think of something else. When you copy files to a CD, they get marked as read only. If the file on your PC is still marked read only, the Palm Desktop will give the bogus corrupt file error. Right click on the addressbook archive and check the properties to make sure it's not marked read only.
