Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to connect the series 5 classic with a nokia 3310 mobile phone, via some cable. This would enable me to get my email on the go. Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks.

Sorry, the 3310 is not suitable for use as a modem in conjunction with a computer.
I believe there is a cable, but it can only be used for transferring ringtones and logos to the phone.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Mike,
I might consider changing my 3310 albeit being relatively new.
I need to know which Nokia or other makes to look out for though.
Can anyone help with some names & numbers.
Thanks.

I use the Nokia 6100 very successfully. though the new Nokia 6230 is looking to be better, and it has bluetooth.
Erricson though seem to be the best with psion is a general opinion, and I think it is the R520 which is well recommended and sold cheap now being a bit of a dinosaur, have a look at expanys or ebay. personally I prefer the menus of the nokia and the way it works with PHoneman extended phone book feature, as well as being smaller and lighter, and being a nokia with good service centres

I have the R520 which is indeed very Psion-friendly, and quite a feature-rich phone except it doesn't have colour screen. If you want colour, the SonyEricsson T68i also works extremely well. Either of these can be picked up fairly inexpensively these days, since they are not exactly latest models, but they do the job.
I've also successfully used a Nokia 6310i for a short period, and I know that's the model MikeMcC uses too.
If you want something a little more cutting-edge, it's a good idea to shop around and see what catches your eye, then post here to see if anyone has tested the models you like the look of. Whilst in general SonyEricsson seem to be a good choice for Psion users, some models are not suitable, and obviously the same applies to Nokia.
I wouldn't recommend straying away from these two brands though - bitter experience!

Thanks everyone for your insight. Will start looking around for a suitable machine, and when I manage to get one, I'll probably start nagging you all to tell me how to get connected.
Thanks again.
Frederick.

Don't have the cable just yet.

Has anyone used this phone with the series 5? I have used the S35i with a Psion via a cable connection - the M35 should be no different. The settings are in this page (http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/Mobiles.htm#Siemens) on my website. You will see in the settings that with a cable connection it is essential to use a port speed of 19200bps.
In terms of cabling, you need the PsiWin serial cable, the phone's data cable and a Null Modem Adapter (or null modem cable) in between, together with any gender changers that may be required. It is not the most elegant of solutions, but it works ;)

Does anyone know if this is possible with a 5210.
I can get email on the 5210 with a laptop but had to install a program from Nokia to add the modem drivers to windows. Does the Psion have any built in modem drivers?
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Does anyone know if this is possible with a 5210.Nokia's website is very unhelpful about the connectivity options with the 5210. As you are able to connect with a laptop, it may be possible to connect with a Psion, but Nokia doesn't say if the phone has an IR port. If it doesn't, you are into the realms of PsiWin cable, Nokia data cable (serial not USB!) and null modem adapter/cable. If you have the necessary kit, try it and see.
Psions don't need modem drivers, it is just a matter of entering the settings in "Control Panel > Modems". I would suggest you try an initialisation string of AT&F&K3 in conjunction with Hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control. The fields for Data and Fax strings can be left blank.
There are a couple of pages on my website that might help:
Modem Information & Troubleshooting (http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/Modemprobs.htm)
Mobile Phone Settings (http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/Mobiles.htm)

The 5210 does have an infrared port, and it was what I used with a laptop.
I already have the phone, and was debating whether to buy the psion on ebay.
If the Psions dont need modem drivers, and I can get it to work with IR on a laptop it should work with a psion I think.
Fantastic!!
