I recently bought an E310 to replace my stolen B&W Palm VIIx. I opted for the Word built in, expandable memory, MP3 Player and color display.

It seems that there is very little good shareware out there for it, I can't use 802.11, it doen't look like I can use my cell phone modem (Nokia 6300 series). At the risk of sounding cynical, what can I do with it? I'd love 802.11

Anyone able to use cell phone to dial and ISP? Do you have any FAQ on how it's done. Toshiba's web site is less than helpful.

Thanks!

I have been a Pion 3c user for 7 years but my screen has recently given trouble and I am thinking of buying a new generation PDA with Pocket PC.

The 310e looks good value. I am in the UK by the way. Does it come with POcket PC installed or is this an extra?

I would be interested to hear from regular users on whether this is a good model to buy

The e310 is the first pda I've ever bought, and I'm using it mainly to keep track of appointments, tasks and contacts. So this little toy is certainly "overkill" in that respect (especially when one takes into consideration the prices charged in Malta...).

But having always been a pc enthusiast, the e310 has proved to me a very good buy (and it should be for you, in the UK or US, where prices make me green with envy...).

I've been playing some games on the e310, and have now started taking to e-books, something I'd never thought of before.

pocket pc 2002 is already installed on rom, together with outlook 2002, pocket versions of word and excel, windows media player and ms reader. I also found quite a lot of shareware, freeware and very reasonably priced commercial software, too.

Although I don't have the pda experience a lot of folks in this forum seem to have, I'm completely happy with the e310 - even though over here it's sold almost at the price of the higher-end spec toshibas.

I suspect that the absence of some of this stuff is because the Toshibas are relatively new on the scene.

But for sure there is a lot less software for PPC than Palm. That being said, I do like the fact that I'm on a mini version of Windows, whose interface I've gotten used to after years of forced use.

Just got my e335 today. Still on the charger. What is 802.11 and what is it used for?

www.supplynetwireless.com says:

e310 Cellular Data Cables are not possible because the e310 does not support serial communications. Will not work with any GPS or Cellular phone.

It may be that some people are using IR to link with phones with that capability

Yes, this works fine. So far I have used e310 with Nokia 6210, 6310 & 5210.

In support of the e310:

It is a damn sweet machine. If it doesn't suit you for what you want it to then you should have looked more closely before you bought... or you can return it probably. There's a lot of shareware/freeware that can be found @ pocketpccity.com, download.com, etc. It just takes some looking. Don't forget to try search engines. Also try this with the link cable (I could swear I've seen a cable somewhere for a Nokia <-> e310 cable). Also I just want to add that I got mine for $147 and it was a damn good buy! :D
