I've got the HP iPAQ 5550/5555 with Windows Mobile 2003 and am searching for 2003 second edition. I can find all kinds of articles and reviews, but can't seem to find the actual upgrade.
I've heard that HP won't be upgrading the current 2003 users (at least not for free).
So, is second edition available from anywhere?

The current news/rumor is that HP has decided not to offer this upgrade on existing ipaq models.

That does stink, I bought the 4150 on the assumption it would be upgraded to win 2003 se :( (mainly for landscape mode) if I'd know it wouldn't be I would have waited for the new models.

The simple process here is called GREED by HP.
They want you to sell your 4150 and spend $600+ plus for the new models coming up...it's that simple.
HP knows that the 4150 is very popular because of it's size factor and many owners just will not part with their 4150...so why give an upgrade?

I've heard that HP "may" upgrade some of the higher-end (translate more expensive) iPAQ's. I would wonder if we could just buy the "Release 2" and install it without HP support?

I doubt HP will do any more upgrades for the 5550/5555 because they are not even making that model anymore. The places that are selling them are places that still have some in thier inventory.

When did they quit making the 5550/5555 ?????? What replaced it, heck I just bought it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They decided to discontinue it it a week a or 2 ago. You can still find the 5555 in stores until their inventory runs out. They are suppose to come out with new models by the end of the month.

The HX4700 is the top-end replacement over the 5555.

Here is the first word directly from HP.

Basically it confirms the rumors.
We are trying to get as many people to voice their complaints in this thread on HP's Forums. The more the merrier and maybe something will happen as a result.

Yes!! I totally agree that we all voice or complains to HP's forum. and let them know what users want.. without their loyal users, I guess we can say Good Bye to the Greed drivin HP.
HP, if you have nothing to offer to the users, then expect the users to offer you nothing in return!!

Since the wi-fi issues will be fixed in a separate patch, it seems the only thing we'll be missing is landscape mode. Is there not an aftermarket product that offers this feature? I could swear I saw something like this somewhere in the past, but since I don't really need it I didn't look hard at the offering.
Additionally, think of all the bugs we'll be missing that they will fix in SE v1.1, then 1.2 the next week to fix 1.1 bugs. I'm on FW v1.10 and this PDA is rock solid, and has only crashed once since February. Even if SE was offered, I doubt if I'd upgrade right away anyway.

Iclick,
As with any software products, I imagine there will be other updates down the road that we don't know about now that we wouldn't be able to take advantage of.
Furthermore,
The 6300 is being released with PPC 2003, does that mean it will not have PPC 2003 SE?
Also if HP is going to do this now, what about when PPC 2005 is released? Are you going to be saying the same thing then?

the only reason i wanted the new edition was because of the landscape mode

I think the worry is that I already feel that I now have an old iPAQ, one thats no longer getting full support from HP. How long before we start to see programs that required PPC2003 SE and we are all be left high and dry.

Your Point is well taken, already there are programs that are not PPC 2002 Compatiable, and how long has 2003 been on the market?
The Older iPaqs and PDAs didn't last that long, but the newer ones will probably make it to the next OS, what then?

First HP lied to me for a year regarding utility software updates for an HP printer for use with XP.
Now, no updates will be available for users of HP PDA's?
I will look elswhere in the future until these greedy jerks change their bad ways!!!!!!!

hah,business is business,customers can't change the law~~~~
but focusing on the problem itself,2003se does not change anything in most of daily applications, unless you use pocket excel or pocket ie frequently.
