I have a cradle that charges and synchronizes my 1945. When I place it in the cradle for charging, it frequently powers up all by itself for synchronization. I suppose this happens whenever I change anything in Outlook or my Synchronized Files folder?
I've set ActiveSync to sync manually only, so I'm not sure why it powers up. I've been disconnecting the USB cable from the back of the cradle so that it won't keep powering up.

Any time your plug in the charg/sync cable (or use the cradel) the iapg will automatically turn on.

Yes, it does power up on connection. Then I turn it off. A couple of minutes later, it powers up and starts syncing with ActiveSync, despite having chosen "synchronize manually" in the options.
Is this proper operation?

Oh, I see. So you plug it in, it turns on and syncs, then you turn it off and leave it plugged in. A few minutes later it turns back on by itself again. Is that correct? Exactly how long is the time between when you turn it off and it coems back on again? Some things to check would be see if any alarms are set on the ipaq, and then double check your activesync settigns on the desktop.

It turns back on approximately 3 minutes after turning it off. I don't think the IPAQ is turning on due to an alarm. I have checked my options within the ActiveSync program. Is there something I need to change on the IPAQ itself?

I'll jsut run through everything here. Even if you think you allready check something i list, try it again:
1) On your dektop pc open active sync.
2) click tools and then options.
3) on the "sync options" page, make sure enable syncing wit ha server is uncheck.
4) The click the "schedual" tab.
5) Make sure all the first drop down boxs are set to "manually".
6) Make sure the check box for "sync outgoing items as they are sent" is unchecked.
7) Go to your pocket pc and go to start then programs
8) Open activesync on the ipaq
9) go to tools then options
10) make sure the drop down box has the name of your desktop computer in it. Also check that the 2 boxes are unchecked.
11)Click the mobile schedual tab
12) make sure the drop down boxes are set to manually and taht the check box labeld "sync outgoing items as they are sent" is uncheck.
13) Clos out of activesync and soft reset your device.
14) Restart your desktop pc.
15) After your pc starts, plug your ipaq in and let it sync fully.
16) wait 5 seconds and then power down the ipaq.
See if it coems back on.

Thanks, I'll give that a try as soon as my wife gives the thing back to me :D
I think your suggestions will work, because I have not once looked at the ActiveSync options on the IPAQ itself. I'll post back with my progress.

I thank you for the detailed troubleshooting list, but unfortunately, the IPAQ is still turning on after 5 minutes, and ActiveSync is starting up. I'm not sure who initiates the process - activesync or the IPAQ.
More than likely, I've missed something. Or perhaps this is normal? Anyway, I'm going to just let it be. I'll unplug the USB when I need to charge only.
Thanks again!

Why do you turn the iPAQ off when its cradled. I leave mine on and let it sync, after a few minutes it powers down on its own. I've never had it come back on again after that.

If yo uwant it to power off again. Go to settigns, then system, then power. Down at the bottom you can tell it to turn off after a certain amount of time.
PS: You'll need ot change the one caled "on external power" if yo uwant it to turn off while plugged in.
