Has anyone succeeded in setting up their Netbook for WiFi using an Orinoco/ WaveLAN silver card? I read messages in the EPOC list suggesting that it would work "right out ofthe box." But I can't seem to get it right. I'm trying to connect to the SBC Yahoo DSL through the 2wire route that SBC supplied. I probably have fiddled with the settings too much and would greatly appreciate it if anyone who has succeeded could send me their settings. Two people have sent me the settings that work with the Cisco card, but that doesn't work with my card. I'll be grateful for any suggestions.

The first thing I would try is to avoid DHCP. A lot of people have problems with this and it seems to be a problem with some DHCP servers. I have only ever got a DHCP address into my netBook once, and that was at a Hotel using it's free WiFi connection.

At home I have to use a static address. Start with that, ensure all of the encryption and security is turned off, and see if you can connect. Then you can see about turning features on.

Cheers

Thank you so much for these settings. I've entered them all. But I still can't get connected. When I try to connect through the e-mail program, I first get a standard screen listing my location (Home), my internet service (My college service), using modem (2wire router) But when I press "O.K.", I get a "Problem connecting to Remote Mailbox" screen that reads "Not ready".
If I try to use Opera to get onto the Web, inserting my college web page as the URL, I get a screen with that http at the topand the message "Communications Blocking".
So far as I can make out, the next step is to get the "Internet" settings on the control panel entered correctly. Can anyone help me with that. I've solved some problems in that department, but there must be others that still need to be set differently. Can anyone help?
By the way, I only seem to find Opera on my Malaybook. Yet the help files describe the Web browser too. Is that only available on the regular Netbook?

Hallo jmwoo,

On the Mbook (and the Netbook) Web is replaced by Opera, a much better browser ( it can connect to hotmail for example).

Try Dual Opera to be able to run both opera version 5.14 (installed in the ROM) and 3.63 (more basic, faster and SSL)

Thanks, I suspected that Web simply wasn't loaded onto the M-book. How does one obtain what you call "dual Opera"? Is it just a question of downloading a .sis file for Opera 3.63? Where does one get it? And what does SSL stand for?

You can obtain Opera 3 from the opera website. For Dual Opera (a small switch programm), just do a google search.

SSL is a kind of security you need to login on public hotspots. Once connected you can use Opera 5.14 again ...

SSL Stands for Secure Socket Layer and referres to 128 DES encryption used by browsers for HTTPS wep pages. THis protects credit card number and transactions, hence on hotspot sites.

Just out of interest, what are you connecting to? Some \Access Points on networks allow to to get to local sites but due to firewall configuration, you can't get any furthere.

I'm trying to configure to the SBC Yahoo DSL system through a 2Wire modem and router. I still haven't managed it. I assume that I now have the Orinoc0 settings right, but have yet to get the correct e-mail and Opera settings. If anyone is out there who has connected to SBC Yahoo, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
By the way, I couldn't find a way to download Opera 3.62 or .63 from the Opera site itself. It simply informs me that it was included on the Revo and Netbook. But the disk that came with my Diamond Mako (the U.S. version of the Revo) had Opera 4.01, a later version. I tried to get it onto my CF card while connected to my Mako by PsiWin, but only succeeded in installing it on the Mako, which I really didn't want to do. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of 3.62 to download

Hi,

If you follow the download link on the opera site on the right hand panel you'll see a link to Opera Archives and then symbian.

Alternatively search the forum downloading Opera and the SSL with Opera has appeared in several topics.

Hallo,

I'm also using the Orinocco card. It worked (for me) right out of the box. Using the Lucent driver wil power te card. Then you have to setup your ISP. This is different for every user. I work with a cable connection. So if the internet is connected with my router I just connet my 7Book to the router and I can surf the Net. No IP, DNS, ... But this different for everyone.

Try to connect to the internet, using a laptop and the Orinocco card. A lot of the settings can be "ported2 to the Netbook. If it doesn't work either, than you have to loop up the details of your ISP ...
