I'm a newbie here, just got the iQue 3600 and I tested it yesterday on a 2 hours trip on motorway.

The iQue 3600 showed me the shortest path to my destination but I decided to take a different path, longer but quicker. As soon as I left the suggested road, it said "off route, recalculating" (I think it's the correct translation). He suggested me a new path but the destination now was no more my original one but the point where I left the suggested path.
I ignored this first suggestion (I thought it was still trying to make me take the shortest way) and staied on the longer but quicker path. The iQue kept suggesting me to go back to that point at every occasion (motorway exit). Even when I reached my original destination it tried to convince me to get all way back to the point where I betrayed its sugegstions ;) No thanks :)

Is it a known bug? Is it just an option to set somewhere?

Thanks!

That's why I don't use auto recalculation. There have been several discussions of this. The iQue assumes you just missed your turn and only tries to get you back to your original route. It doesn't do a complete reevaluation of your route based on your new position and direction. Generally, if you turn off auto recalculation and manually request it to recalculate, it'll do a more thorough route calculation from scratch. Sometimes though, it's just bullheaded and refuses to believe that the route you've selected is better that it's own.

Doodah is probably right but you also may have experienced "routing to partial."

I've been using Betty since January and what you experienced is normal. Betty will try to reroute you the quickest or shortest (whichever option you have chosen) when it reroutes.

Betty was trying to get you back to the original route because, in your case, that was shorter. If you had ignored Betty then it would reroute you again, and again and, eventually, Betty would see that the route you have been taking is now shorter and would route you "forward" instead of trying to send you backwards.

I do this often so I've turned off the "Off Route, recalculating" message. I haven't turned off auto recalculating, just the message.

I have Betty set up to take me on the quickest route. Lately, I've been using Betty's route instead of my "favorite-learned-over-time" route. Oddly, I've found that most of the time Betty gets me there quicker than the route I always thought was better.

Thanks for your precious suggestions. To me it sounds like a bug, as I said even when I reached my final original destination, it wanted me to go all way back to the "partial".

As far as you know, has this bug reported to Garmin? Any feedback?

I know it has been reported but I'm not personally aware of any feedback. Perhaps it will be addressed in Release 4.

I have also experienced routing to partial. While it does occaisionally happen it is not the norm. I frequently disagree with Betty about the best route, and normally after a few tries she agrees to go my way. It is less annoying if you turn off the "off route, recalculating" message.
