Anyone know anything about a program called "Backup Man". Apparently it's a program that will enable you to save Waypoints (address book) in the event of a dead battery.

Backupman and CardBkup are two different programs, both with the same purpose. They not only let you save the waypoints, but all the data you have in your iQue, on the card.
Thus, you have a backup to reload, should you suffer from a hard reset of your iQue.

Highly recommended, to be on the safe side. The problem is that I can't really post this now, since it will ruin the statistics.:(
Oh well...

Backup Man is a stable, well used back-up utility for backing up data in the main memory of the iQue onto the SD card. You can then restore the backed up data in the event of data loss for any reason.

Normally, loss of battery power will not affect your data since it is in non-volatile memory.

I have Backup Man and its saved my bacon a couple of time after mysterious hard resets while I was away from my computer.

Found and d/l the program. Is there a way to isolate what files you want backed up, e.g. just the address book?

I must second trekker's comments. It is great to recover your files - especially when you lose all your voice files after a mysteriious battery drain :-(.

Well worth the $10 or so it costs. I have mine configured to automatically backup after HotSync and only keep 3 previous versions. For me it uses as 15mb per backup.

Great if you want to try some software out, then restore to a previous state when it all goes wrong.

Normaly the iQue shuts off if the critical limit is reached. But if it doesn't shut off - all data loaded by hotsync in the internal memory or entered into an application is gone. Stored in non volatile memory are only the Palm OS and the basic iQue proggies but not the voice files, your personal data like the address database, the apointments etc.

I stand corrected.

WOW! This is an awesome program. Being on the road and having your waypoints, data and voice disappear has happened to me twice in critical situations in the past 2 months. Thanks for the suggestion of backing up after a hot sync and only keeping x number of backups. Although I shut the iQUE down after I get a low battery signal, charge the unit the first chance I get, I still have lost data and this last time, also the voice. I just d/l the software update that keeps a copy of the voice commands in the SD. Garmin said that the brightness setting is a major battery drain and that with the unit shut down and the GPS antenna flipped up is still draining the battery. There doesn't seem to be a warning well enough in advance before charging the unit in order not to experience some loss of data or capabilities.:)

I travel with Betty and no PC. I have backup man automatically backup every morning at 3am.

When on the road without a PC there's no way to recover without Backup Man. It installs a copy of the program on the SD card and if your unit fails, or needs a hard reboot you just take the card out and put it back in and voila!, backup man is there to do the restore.

It's a "must have" for those that rely on Betty!
