All of a sudden one day as I was walking with my iQue in my shirt pocket it just started making a rattleing noise with each step I took. I took it out of my pocket and moved it back and forth and something inside rattled with each movement. The unit was never dropped or handled roughly. This lasted about two days and suddenly went away. I had emailed Garmin to see what they say.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

I have had the unit for almost 9 months and love it.:)

Since it was in your pocket perhaps some loose change made it's way into the device? :D

Rattling is somewhat normal as long as the device is working. Sometimes the rattle could be from the vibrating mechanism other times it might be from the Hall Effect switch used to trigger the antenna/gps on mode.

As long as it has gone away and is not causing any problems - it's somewhat normal and has been reported before. You could send it in for an RMA but I think that's unneccesary and ill advised.

Do a search for Rattle within this forum and see how many others have reported it....sometimes it will result in a failure and other times no issue.

I've had so many Palms over the years that rattle that I don't worry about it.

That was fast! I did a search and saw the comments. Whatever it was it was too heavy for it to be the stylus. Since I am close to running out of Warrenty I was worried I might need to RMA it. It just did'nt sound good.

This is my first PDA so I am not used to a 'normal rattle' that came and went without appearant reason.

Just wondering why an RMA would be "ill advised"?

Probably a bad choice of words....the down time without the device etc. You could send an email to Garmin's tech support and ask them to fix the rattle but they may advise that some noise is normal. And unless you have a specific "issue" of functionality - they may not give you an RMA number.

I'd run it through their email support rather than calling but if the noise is still there and loud enough to be heard through the phone then perhaps you'd be better off to call them.

Mine makes a little noise as I stated. I'm not worried but I also don't know what or how loud your noise is so.....

Just to be on the safe side, try it without the stylus. With the cap on loose it can rattle pretty loud. Mine has no rattle at all.

Mr. Cat is wise about the stylus but be advised his Que would never rattle because it would have a "hair ball" on the inside. :D

Thanks you guys!

This rattle happened about 4 months ago and I did'nt want to send it back because I use it so much, as was stated ' downtime without the unit' was my concern.

Ok, so I took the stylus out and unscrewed the top a couple of turns and put back. Sure enough, a rattle pretty similar to the one I heard. Not 100% sure that was it but very possible.

I have emailed Garmins support and will see what they say as well.

This forum is great. I just registered today and already have learned alot from searching other post subjects. It looks as if I will be spending alot of time here searching, reading, and learning more. Someday maybe I can contribute like you guys do.

I'll keep you posted on what Garmin says.

Ps:I also asked them if I could replace the screen (for a fee) as I have managed to put a bunch of tiny scratches on it using a different stylus.

Thanks again for your input and wisdom.:)

$75 that not for the advice, but what they charge for replacing the screen. :)

I think the replacement screen is $75. You may want to check out the various threads about "screen protection". Although Trojans don't work to well (you can't see through them well enough) they are conversation pieces when used over the Que. :D

Actually, you can search Boxwave, Seidio and others for real live protection - I prefer the Boxwave's.

Also, besides input and wisdom - you'll get a lot of OT humor - weather you want it or not at this forum but almost no flaming unless you start talking about using the Que as a Flight Aid or start talking bad about my Republican Governor and his "Girlie Man" comments. :D

We are indeed both wise and inputting.
However, don't be fooled by the apparent wimsiness of the stylus. It's indeed capable of a loud and mighty rattling sound, a sound which easily would make any hairball retreat in embarrassement.

Not to mention scaring of an assortment of weird animals, so perhaps that's a good incentive to keep the stylus loose after all??? :D :D

Ok, I'm going to turn out the lights - please tell me more scary stories Uncle Anders. :D :D
