I just reloaded my map set adding Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I have noticed that when zoom to certain scales, such as 5 or 8. or 12 miles that the map only shows as a small square in the center with blank areas all around. In other words the map does not fill the screen as it should. It only affects the 5, 8, or 12 mile zoom.

I have not noticed this effect on any other map areas other than the Ft. Lauderdale area. Maps in my hometown and in Colorado have not done this.

The only thing that I can think of is that when I loaded the new map containing Ft. Lauderdale I did not first delete the previous map file from the iQue before doing the hotsync. Do you think that this could be the problem?

Has anyone else experienced this?

It could be bad memory sectors in the card - is it a SanDisk?

Deleting/re-install should had no effect because you can only have one mapset.

Ok now that your heart is beating at 120 per minute - check this:

From map view chose Preferences from the menu: Tap Detailed Maps on the right hand. Check to make certain that all of the maps are checked. You can check and uncheck the maps on the card and they will allow the other maps to load faster if the "detailed" section doesn't have to be shown even though they are on the card. A couple of unchecked maps is probably the cause.....you heart rate can return to normal.

If all of them are checked -- bad sectors in the card --but that's probably not the case unless you got it too close to the Gilsson already. ;)

No, it is not a Sandisk. It is a Pansonic. All of the maps have check marks.

It is not a big deal as I was only looking at Ft. Lauderdale for hotel informaton for our cruise and I don't need 5, 8, or 12 mile zoom. All other levels are fine.

I was just wondering if there was a simple "cure".

I managed to misplace the basemap at one point. If you have no basemap loaded when you zoom out to the levels where the basemap would normally be displayed the areas that are not covered by your detail maps are blank.

Also, there is a limit to how many detailed map tiles the iQue will show at one time. If you zoom out a bit, where the basemap normally kicks in, but sometimes also in spite of having a basemap available, you'll exceed this number. Then you get "holes" in the map.

The basemap is there. I don't have that many maps loaded. Only about 85 MB worth. It is a mystery.

Robin,

Have you gone to that particular map section in the detailed listings and checked to see if it says version 6 or 5? I'm thinking it might be a residual from the problems you had getting rid of V5 when you did the upgrade.

I checked after you left that message. Yes, it is ver. 6.

Maybe if you get bored one day, call Garmin and let us know what they say.

If you change the level of detail, does that affect the scales at which you encounter this problem?
Could you post a screenshot of what you see?

Sounds like you did as I did. When routing and zooming in around a city, I noticed there was not detail in one area. Appears I did not load detail of this area on card. Went back and loaded THAT area. It was now the only detailed area on map. Had to go back and reload all of the areas not just additional.

Now for an additional question. I assume from previous response you cannot add a seperate detailed area map. In my case I use New England, USA area for detail. Will be traveling to Florida on vacation. Is it correct that I will need to load all areas I need detail at the same time rather that individual files and switch. I suppose the other option is to use different cards for the different areas.

I am confused as to how you load individual detail maps. Using Mapsource I have to wait while it processes my selections into one file and then sets it for transfer at the next hotsync. Only one file is transferred containing all of the detail maps. This happens even if I load the previous map selections I saved in Mapsource and simply modify the selections.

The mapinstall program builds one file with all of the maps contained within it. If you don't select all of the areas within a city - you will get only partial detail.

This function of building one "file" is probably just as much a function of the SD card/Palm OS as it is anything else.

Even though you may have half of the country on a "mapset" it is uploaded as a single file either to internal memory or the SD card.

It is very easy to "miss" an area of a city when creating map sets if you click on each area in the map install process. I usually use the standard Windows "shift" to select all areas between point a and b so as to not miss an area that I want the detail for.
