Hey everyone,

I have tried Palm's customer support for help on this problem, but they basically told me they can't do anything. But still, i wanted to try here as many of you pros may have an answer to help me...

For sopme reason, after two years since I brought it, my Palm m130 has stopped hotsyncing all together and just freezes when it tries to connect to my computer.

When I press the hotsync button on the cradle, my comp[uter (Windows Xp Pro) makes a hardware detection noise, but on the Palm's screen it is just stuck on "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" and then follows with the error message " The conenction between your handheld and the desktop could not be established. PLease check your setup and try again."

This has been happening for weeks now and not only do these error messages come up, but when I press the Hotsync button, the machine itself freezes and I can't turn it off or use my stylus to cancel. It also comes up with fatal errors when I try to Hoptsync as well as awkward patterns (like diagonal lines running across the screen) when it freezes.

And I've done everything I can think of to try and solve the problem. All my drivers on my computer are in order, Windows Xp has detected my Palm handheld and there are no conflicting devices. I have even formatted my computer and the first thing I did was try to Hotsync my palm after I installed the software. And it still froze, etc.....

So if anyone has any suggestions or solutions, please help me.. It would be greatly appreciated as I haven't been able to backup my business notes for the period before this problem came up..

Thankyou :)

Oh by the way I forgot to mention, I'm using a USB cradle and that I've tried hard and soft resets on the machine. And the problem still persists..

I'm thinking I've done something to the firmware... I'm hoping not? :(

I've heard of problems with Palm Desktop and Win XP. It's usually related to whether or not Palm Desktop was installed using an account with administrative rights on the computer. Did you upgrade to XP Pro and the problems started, or had you been able to HotSync successfully with XP Pro already on the computer?

If Hard Reset (all your data is gone) doesn't help, then you have hardware problems. Maybe the USB chip got fried :(

m130's don't get SUDS, where static electricity confuses the USB chip. Before you throw it away, give Chris Short at ips@chartermi.net a call. He does great work at reasonable prices.

Thanks guys for replying so fast.

Telyx - I was already able to successfully Hotsync in Win XP pro before this problem started.

JohnKes - Thanks very much. I will email him and see what he cam do for me.
