I use W2000 and have an Ericsson MC218 and use Psiwin 2.3.3
I never had problems synchronising, but since about a week Calendar and Contacts don't synchronise anymore. Backing up is no problem, My Pocket works fine, synchronising email works fine, but synchronising Calendar/Contacts goes wrong. It starts fine, but at the and I get the message that the synchronisation did not finish normally. I read in the Psion information that the reason could be a corrupt file, but I can't find out what is wrong. I also can't tidy my Calendars anymore. Can it have anything to do with the wintertime? Does anybody know a solution?
Thanks and greetings, Angela

You could try to re-instal psiwin, probably a corrept dll or something.
You didn't change your settings by mistake?
Other option is to rename your current agenda and start a new one on your psion, and than try to sync again, if the new agenda does the sync trick, you could update it with the old entries from your second agenda on your psion.

Thank you for your reaction! I made new Calendar files and tried to synchronise them with the old Outlook file and I tried the old Calendar file to synchronise with a new Outlook folder. I tried also to synchronise a new Calendar file with a new Outlook folder. No file was ever synchronised. I also exported the Outlook file into another Outlook file, but that didn’t help either. I keep getting the message that the synchronisation did not finish normally. I uninstalled (and used the register cleaner) Psiwin and installed it again. That all did not make any difference.
By the way: when I try to tidy a Calendar I get the error message: Reason code: E32USER-Cbase Reason number 71. Maybe that rings a bell to someone?

I suggest creating a new Calendar file, then use File.. MOre.. Merge In.. to marge the content of your old file into it. This will hoepfully sort out the corruptions in the file, and you will then be able to Tidy it.

Now that you have re-installed Psiwin, I also suggest that you reinstall the two sync updates that Psion have released. Check my FAQ at the URL below for instructions on where you can download these from.

Thanks for the tips. I installed the updates and am going to look at symbian.info right now. The Calendar-problem has been solved by deleting my MC218 in the device-manager and replacing the Calendarfile for an one-month-old Calendarfile. After that I could synchronise Calender with Outlook again. Unfortunately this did not work for Contacts. As soon the synchroniser starts scanning the contacts, it stops and gives the message ‘synchronisation did not finish normally’. Does anybody know what else I can try?

you could try exporting the entire Contacts file to a .vcf file, close the Contacts app, delete C:\System\Data\Contacts.cdb (this is the Contacts database), then re-open Contacts and import the vcf file.

This will 'clean' your Contacts database. Be aware though that the export/import may cause some data to be lost. I'm not certain of this one way or the other, but since this process is converting EPOC proprietary records into a generic format and then back again, I mention it as a possibility. Usual rules - do a backup before you start just in case you need to rewind....

Thank you for this idea. It worked fine to create a brand new Contacts file. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I get the idea that everytime I try to set the options in the synchronisation window (-applications-choose Psion program) to Contacts (in stead of data) that option is not saved and is set back to data everytime.

I have no problem synchronising a contacts-datafile with Outlook. I could accept that as a solution, if I could use those adresses also in Message, but I can't find a way how to do that. Does anybody know how I can realise that?
Or do I better open another topic?

If that is really happening, then it suggests that Sync does not know which file to synchronise with on the Psion. If you have that suspicion, it sounds as though there is a fault with the installation of the Psiwin Synchronisation software.

You say however that you have recently done an uninstall, cleaned the registry, then reinstalled; loath as I am to suggest it, you may need to go round this loop again

No, that's not possible; Contacts is the app that integrates with other applications (both in-built and third party). From what you've said, I think the fault lies with Psiwin in some way rather than with the MC218.

And so I uninstalled and installed PsiWin again. But it made no difference. I also deleted several Programs from my MC218 and tried to synchronise Contacts again, but that did not help either.
I can't stand it that I can't find a solution ;) , because untill a few weeks ago everything worked fine. But at this moment I have no idea what I can try anymore, so if I change something in Contacts I change it in Outlook also. Not a big problem, just irritating. Thank you very much for trying to find a solution!
Greetings, Angela

Hurray! Today it all workes fine again!
Hurray, but I also feel pretty stupid, because I don't know why it is working again. The only thing that I can think of is that I 'cleaned' my PC and defragmented it.
Thank you for helping to find a solution and... Hurray!

I am having the same issues that Angela is (was) having. I've been using a Diamond Mako (Revo plus) for 2+years. Never had any problems at all. Now all of a sudden I can't synch. When I try, the process starts normally and you can watch it reading information from Outlookl, but then I get the message, "Synchronization did not finish normally."

Here's my setup: Win 2000, Office XP, Diamond Mako (Psion Revo plus), PsiWin 2.3.3. I'm not using any additional 3rd party products (software or hardware).

My PC crashed (HD) about a month ago and when I got it rebuilt, my IT Dept ended up installing Office XP. I can't help but think there is something that is not working there since I've not used it very long with Office XP.

Angela - what version of Office are you using? Did you ever get anymore insight into why/how you were able to get it working again? This is very frustrating...

I'm sorry to hear you have the same problem I had. Indeed very frustrating. I still don't know how I got it working again, except for what I wrote here. I found a lot of information at http://www.psion.com/support/ It did not solve my synchronisation problems, but maybe you can find a solution for your problem. I am using Office 2000.
I hope you'll find a solution soon. Good luck! Angela

Okay, i need some help and was hoping that others may be able to submit some ideas. Here's what I have done so far...

- Completely uninstalled Psiwin 2.3.3 (including registry clean)
- removed all references that I could find of Psion, Revo, Epoch in the registry, and all files on the harddrive
- renamed any folders that had anything to do with the above names to be sure that on re-install it didn't try to pull info from previous installs
- ran scanpst.exe on outlook.ost and personal.pst, errors were found and corrected
- ran full scan disk and chkdsk on hard drive, then defrag: no errors
- stopped all programs in system tray and disbled virus program
- reinstalled PsiWin 2.3.3 and still got the same error message, and nothing synch'd
- I was able to perform a backup of the system, but no calendar or contacts.

I suspect that there is a file(s) that is keeping some information from previous installs and is therefore "crashing" the synch process. The problem is that I am not sure that I am removing all of the files associated with the PsiWin program.

Next Steps:
(1) try "detect and repair" on Outlook
(2) wait for ideas from others on this board...

Hi, I don't do sync myself so I'm always cautious about posting suggestions on the topic, but there are two sync updates available for dowload at www.psion.com/myPsion. They may help?

Well, I made some progress! I created separate synchronization tasks: one for Contacts and one for Agenda. Contacts will now synchronize and Agenda will not.

So, now I started focusing on the Agenda files. I narrowed the date range to synch and **bingo** it works!

The only thing I can figure is that I had a conflict a few weeks ago that stopped me from synching. But I guess when I cleared it, there was something that didn't get reset and it continued to keep me from doing a complete synch.

I will continue to work this and see how much I can get away with, but I am excited that I am making progress!:D

Hurray! After changing the time on my MC218 and PC (wintertime), I always have problems synchronising Calendar. I resolve that by making a new Calendarfile and synchronise it with the existing Outlook file. Maybe if you do this, you don't have to limit the date range?
