Admittedly a newbie, I've been successful so far in setting locations after using a "search" for the addresses in my address book and then setting the location. That is, until I try to search for my son's address in New York City. Then I get an error message "None found". I've checked the installed maps and New York City seems to be in there OK and when I drive through the City all of the streets are visible on my IQue.
Do I need to install further map info on the unit?

this happened to me as well.
when you are looking in the search field. make sure you have NYC selected.
it only searches one installed city at a time..

Be sure everything is spelled correctly. Even when you have it right sometimes the Que may be using an alternate spelling.

Thanks for your replies.
I selected "New York City" and still got "None Found". If I select "street" there are no streets listed in the Select Street Name window. This despite the fact that I can manually locate his address on the map on my IQue.
I went back into my map install to confirm that NYC is installed and all looks fine there.
Is there a specific download for the NYC street listing?

There are several streets in St. Louis that show up on the map but not in the index. The same errors occur on paper maps of the area. In the St. Louis case the problem is with data from Navteq. Hopefully this problem has been corrected in cs6. Maybe your NYC problem is the same.

I had a similar problem when searching for streets in Portland. Then I found out it was because my maps had been installed on the 'Que incorrectly (somehow). This is the sign something was wrong:
In QueFind->Addresses: is there a field marked "Region"? If not, then your map install may be, well, funbobbed. To confirm, select "Maps" from the menu bar (or stroke-M if you're into Grafitti shortcuts). In any case, you may have many maps listed, one per city or so (may be more given Manhattan's density). If this is true, then your maps were not installed correctly and the problem may be fixed by re-installing maps (even if you don't re-select any maps on your PC). Just do a "Map Install" from Palm Desktop and proceed.
If your map install is correct, then you do have a "Region" marked in QueFind->Addresses, and you only have one map to select, named "NA City Select v5", probably.
Anyway, if your problem is what I explained two paragraphs ago, the fix is easy. Though the map install takes a bit of time...

Oh, and I think if your map install is correct, then the "City" field helps narrow down the searches but is not mandatory. Thus I generally ignore it. (Though, again, the pop. density in the Northeast US may make it worth your time to select the city.)
Basically, I seemed to me that finding Addresses, Intersections, etc. actually works really well if you have your maps installed correctly.

I've had the same map problem once, but with the European maps. This mapset worked initially, but suddenly one day, the former European CS 6 maps were split up "tilewise".
I could only search for a city, for example, if I knew on which map tile it was located. Which blunts the whole idea of searching, of course.
I never tried it with a street, but I can understand that it would have been the same thing.
Also, with streets, it's very sensitive that you spell it correctly. Which should be understood not necessarily like it always is spelled, but the way it's spelled in the iQue database.
Start with city, region and postal code all set to "All", then enter the name, one letter at a time, and pay attention to if you see the correct beginning of the name show up in the list.
Also pay attention to possible prefixes and suffixes. If you are looking for East Hoolabaloo street (and we for a moment do assume such a street name does exist), don't enter East, but start with Hoolabaloo. There can't be many streets like that :D , so when you see it in the list (Select Street Name), tap Prefix/Suffix. A list with valid prefixes and suffixes for the street name you've narrowed it down to will be shown. Since the likelihood that there are many Hoolabaloo streets is small, it will probably have only "East" in the list.
If you select a more common street name, like "Main", there'll probably be several different prefixes to choose from, like "East", "West", "Old" etc.

Still a problem....
I reloaded the maps and when I go to the street index, the lower field is blank. None of the NYC streets show up at all.
Is the problem that the address I'm looking for is numerical? The search does seem to accept numbers.
I'll try anything suggested.....
And thanks very much to all who've replied.

Streets are listed with "New York, NY" selected but not with "New York City, NY" selected. Strange.

Well, I can't help you any further, since I don't have any US City Select maps. But if you supply the name of the street in question, then maybe someone else, who actually has CS maps over New York, can help you.

I just tried searching US CS5 for addresses in New York using Mapsource, and can also confirm that no addresses are listed for "New York City", but a gazillion are listed for "New York" in the City search field. I suggest this where your solution lies.
Maybe the latter name is only used in the city search vs. address search?

...FYI:
The "Region" field is not always supposed to show up with a proper mapset. There are circumstances where it's normal for it to not be visible, as I mentioned here (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=126121#post126121).

CinderK,
Thank you for editing my comments to make them seem comprehensible and adding a bit of clarification. The original poster claims to be from Boston, and the address issue was about NYC, so I assumed there would be more than one state. But, we all know about assuming....

I have been wondering if anyone else had the "New York" v. "New York City" issue. I wonder what those programers in the midwest thought when they left New York City blank. I stumbled on this quite a few times before I realized that there were no streets at all in New York City, they were all in New York.

This sounds like a map data issue, not a program issue. If it is so, then the blame would lie with Navteq, who provides the map data to Garmin.

Problem solved. "Select Street Name" wasn't able to locate my son's address under "11 Street" until I added the "th" to 11.
Success! Finally!!
