Is there a utility that automatically cleans up files which are obsolete?
Mobipocket for example generates a lot of small files that stay on the PDA, even after you unsubscribe from the pertaining news sources

I know of no "Automatic" tool to remove orphans.
Try myWorkBench from toysoft.ca. This is a remarkable program with a lot of uses and one of the features menu/options/ remove orphans may be just what you need. Be aware that myWB will see files in RAM, that have their app on the card, as orphaned. Use with caution.

Try "victor". Not sure were you can find it, but it's designed to clean up orphan files. Try palmgear.com, and of course pdastreet.com:D

Thanks. I'm interested in seeing how much human intervention is allowed.

I checked out Victor and it seems it ONLY works on OS 3.5. None of the earlier or later Palm OS.
The function for OS 3.5 folks is totally out of human hands once started. Given that it removes trashed files that only occured in 3.5 it has a limited usefulness.
The function in myWOrkBench for finding Orphaned files is more versitle.

Ahh yes, I had forgotten about that, as I have not used it since getting 4.1. It is somewhat limited, well, exetremely limited. You press abutton, it deletes the files. For how small it is, that's not bad. I will look at myworkbench, cheers

I just thought I'd pass along a link. I think with the way the new OS's are being coded there should be a better and more efficient way of handling orphaned files and the like. If you have a better tool or find one then please by all means let us know. Much appreciated.

There is a program that does this. It's called PrefEd which matches all files with the programs that created them and lists the orphaned files as -none-
available at:

I don't know how it deals with the pdb and prc files in ram that have their main files on the memory stick, so be careful.
I usually just delete them manually after sorting them by creator id (CID) in File Manager. There's a way of checking what program the file belonged to by it's CID by looking it up at:
http://dev.palmos.com/creatorid/
I know it's a lot more tedious that way, but it seems safer.

I've been using SuperUtility from Handmark. I find it useful when deleting applications. It gives me the option to delete everything tied to the apps or select to leave the database alone. Also when I want to have a program removed I will usually sort by the creator to see if there's anything left behind.
