hi!
I have a problem with the garmin iQue 3600 downloading the maps into a sd card... if the maps are above 50 (like 60 mb), after the hotsync operation I don't see the maps...
someone can help me??

thanx!

First things first:
Which brand of SD card are you using?

(Anders, don't be offended - hehe ;) but..)

ghiboz,

you have to more specific about the problem. Post details of your SD card brand and size (capacity). Downloading maps to an SD card can be unsuccessful if you are trying to download a map that is bigger than the available space on your card. Depending on the card type, downloading maps of the size you mention can take a very long time. It may be better to use a SD card reader on your computer to accomplish this process faster.

Also make sure that you have enabled the detailed maps on your iQue: Prefs - Que - Maps - Detailed Maps. Make sure the check boxes are "checked" for the detailed maps that you want to view.

Nice flag, apersson850. What made you change your avatar?

ok, actually the GMAPSUPP.IMG is 64280 k and it works really fine..
the SD card is a sandisk SD256 and actually have 163.2 MB of free space..
next I select some other maps from the mapsource program.
The program create the new GMAPSUPP.IMG and when I make the Hotsync, I don't see all the maps, I don't know if the problem is downloading the file into the sd or directly creating the file into the pc, because I have also a file called GRMN_LOG.txt and at the end of this file i read this:
VFSFileRead failed with code 10505 reading 512 bytes CDP_map_list
VFSFileRead failed with code 10505 reading 512 bytes thread CDP_map_list

The reason that Anders asked about the SD brand is that the 256MB SanDisk cards have a history of problems with the iQue.

so the only thing is to change the SD card and take a no SanDisk card??
If I format the card I can resolve the problem?

thanx!

You may try a re-format, but if that does not work, it may a bum SanDisk card. I have two Sandisk cards of 256MB and apart from slow write speeds, have not experienced any real problems with them. There might have been a bad batch sold that does not work too well with the iQue.

You may also try to delete all the old maps before you hot-sync the new GMAPSUPP.img, to free up all available space, but if you are re-formatting this is not necessary of course. Perhaps the new GMAPSUPP.img is larger than 163 MB?

I don't remember but I don't think, because I tried to download the new Img each time with a new map, so the file was bigger by about a mb... i think that the file was about 70 mb...
thanx!:(

Formatting the SD card from within the iQue sometimes solves the problem. With your particular SD card it may reoccur even if it solves the problem. I would recommend trying the format and if you have similar problems again, get a different card.

Important things first:
I noticed the flag on my company's web site, and form there it's Bokkie's fault. He persist referring to me and the others from here as the "Swedish contingent" (although Bokkie has probably forgotten all about it), so I thought the flag would be appropriate. At least until a blue and yellow suit can be found, for Caroline to wear... ;)

Second, when I still had my SanDisk card, what is described in some of the answers is exactly what used to happen. Always slow (noticeable when redrawing the map; More than once did I reset the iQue, thinking it was frozen, but it wasn't, it was just reading the SanDisk card), sometimes not properly accessible.
Format the card and it worked for a while, then the same problems came back again.

so, I tested that the SD had some problems, and formatting them works fine... but for how long time this??

what SD you suggest to buy to substitute the Secure Digital SD 256???

thanx:D

Yes, formatting often helps, but also often not forever.
I haven't had problems with my Toshiba cards. Those who've tried says that Panasonic are even better, alas often more difficult to find, and perhaps also more expensive.
Lexar are considered good as well.

Also, some says it's only the 256 MB SanDisk cards which are troublesome in the iQue. Other sizes work better, I've been told.

Look around in this forum, in older posts. There's a lot (really a lot) written about these cards.

IMHO, in this order

1. Panasonic
2. Lexar (fast version, made by Panasonic)
3. Toshiba
4. All others
5. Larger (512MB or more) SanDisk
100. 256 MB SanDisk or same size made by SanDisk

Good choice! 512MB would be better but more expensive.

or

Buona scelta! 512MB sarebbe migliore ma pił costoso.
Arrivederci.
