hello! I've founda good deal on a 1945h for $150, and I'm wondering if it will do everythign I want it to.
I'f my frugal and patient, I should be able to get a good price on a big SD card.
I'd like to use the pocket PC as a media player, storing mp3s and film, and it would be great if I could run emulators on it as well. I'm a big fan of classic gaming.
My demands are not too strict, but does the 1945 have the processor power to do this?
Some people mentioned earlier that I should look at faster, pricier models, but price is a big factor for me.

Samsung 266 MHz processor, the cpu in 1945 is not that slow, you will have no problem with music files. For video with proper encoding (there're many free tools available) you should be able to play them fine.

what about for simple SNES type games?
If the 1945h will do all of this, what will the more powerful units do? Is it just like the PC, where more powerful units will be able to handle more at once, and do what they can faster?
How much multi tasking does one do on a pocket PC?

I don't have much information on game emulator, but i'm sure you can at least play them without sound.
More expensive models has more hardware features such as wifi, more memory and yes they do the same thing faster and more efficient ie. better frame rate in videos and games.
There are many benchmarks comparing different models on this site, it should give you some ideas;

thanks!
Will regular PC software run on a pocket pc, provided the system requirements are met?
For example, I am a big fan of a 1993 pc game X com. It is playable with just a mouse, would it be possible to run it on a palm?

No, programs for pocketpc need to be written and compiled specifically for the operating system and cpu, regular windows programs will not work on it.
There are plenty of games for pocketpc platform, here're 2 popular stores;

There's also a version of X-COM type game for pocketpc, it's a russian site;
