I need a IIIc cradle with usb connection, as Dell have stuffed me with my new laptop. Does such a creature exist?:confused:

Palm does offer a USB cradle. There are also adapters

PS: the cradle is for the III series and will not charge your IIIc but will Sync.

Thanks Dr Mud! Any idea where I can ge one, as palm tell me they do not have one. I have had my palm for years and would not be without it, put hotsync's are impossible o my new laptop as Dell have not installed a serial port! Don't buy Dell.

Unfortunately, many mfg are dropping support for old interfaces like serial and parallel in favor of USB and Firewire.

Hope you can find a USB solution. Try searching under "Palm USB" at Google.

Doesn't your laptop have an infared port?? Most laptops do these days. You may need to enable it using a downlaod from Microsoft.com - I needed to enable the infrared port on the laptop I used. If you do you will have hotsyncs that are twice as fast and no cradle needed therefore its free! Down side is again no charging. You can get a usb charger however for about $2 on ebay whereas the ones that hotsync and at least $20.

p.s If you do have an IR port and need help setting up your palm and palm desktop let me know - it can be confusing.

How fast can you go on IR HotSync? I thought IR on a Palm could only go 57.6K

The issue of speed can be confusing. JohnKes is right about the max speed on the IR transfer rate. But to make matters worse for the IR sync the actual thru-put of the data ends up being about half the speed of the direct serial. I believe that some translation of data occurs on both ends slowing the process.

Thanks for all your replys. IR could be the answer, but I cannot install dektop witout a cradle. Sorry to be such a pain, but this is so annoying

Download the Palm Desktop Software from Palm.co and install. If you are using Outlook go to Chapura.com and download the newest version of Standard Pocket Mirror update and install.

I bought it on ebay...and unfortunatley it doen't work with OS X...but i had it up and running at work on 2000 and XP, so it's definetly good. The one I have is a cable (not cradle) that you plug into your palm and it charges and syncs via usb simultaneously! Let me know if you're interested
