Does such a creature exist? DrMud 11-05-2002, 02:55 PM Palm does offer a USB cradle. There are also adapters Doc PS: the cradle is for the III series and will not charge your IIIc but will Sync. Taffboy 11-05-2002, 03:09 PM Thanks Dr Mud! Any idea where I can ge one, as palm tell me they do not have one. I have had my palm for years and would not be without it, put hotsync's are impossible o my new laptop as Dell have not installed a serial port! Don't buy Dell. JohnKes 11-05-2002, 04:25 PM Unfortunately, many mfg are dropping support for old interfaces like serial and parallel in favor of USB and Firewire. Hope you can find a USB solution. Try searching under "Palm USB" at Google. little-man 11-05-2002, 05:39 PM try eBay. I've seen plenty there. DrMud 11-05-2002, 06:06 PM Taffy, Check out this product. Email these folks and see if they have any contacts in the UK. Most laptops do these days. You may need to enable it using a downlaod from Microsoft.com - I needed to enable the infrared port on the laptop I used. If you do you will have hotsyncs that are twice as fast and no cradle needed therefore its free! Down side is again no charging. You can get a usb charger however for about $2 on ebay whereas the ones that hotsync and at least $20. iiicRules. p.s If you do have an IR port and need help setting up your palm and palm desktop let me know - it can be confusing. JohnKes 11-06-2002, 10:23 AM iiicRules, How fast can you go on IR HotSync? I thought IR on a Palm could only go 57.6K DrMud 11-06-2002, 10:46 AM The issue of speed can be confusing. JohnKes is right about the max speed on the IR transfer rate. But to make matters worse for the IR sync the actual thru-put of the data ends up being about half the speed of the direct serial. I believe that some translation of data occurs on both ends slowing the process. Doc Taffboy 11-06-2002, 10:54 AM Thanks for all your replys. IR could be the answer, but I cannot install dektop witout a cradle. Sorry to be such a pain, but this is so annoying DrMud 11-06-2002, 11:00 AM Download the Palm Desktop Software from Palm.co and install. If you are using Outlook go to Chapura.com and download the newest version of Standard Pocket Mirror update and install. Doc Stay awake and get going! little-man 11-07-2002, 05:59 PM If you want, I could sell you a USB charger. Contact me if you're interested. TheSpies 11-07-2002, 06:44 PM you can get a usb to serial converter from belkin: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Product_Id=91042 they most likely sell a converter in a store near you llike compusa,frys,etc... sk8er@odisy.com 11-12-2002, 05:59 PM I bought it on ebay...and unfortunatley it doen't work with OS X...but i had it up and running at work on 2000 and XP, so it's definetly good. The one I have is a cable (not cradle) that you plug into your palm and it charges and syncs via usb simultaneously! Let me know if you're interested sk8er@odisy.com Jon PDA Street
