Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : LOL - having trouble routing to my address

I must confess,

I haven't had time to read through the entire manual yet. However, I really wanted to try the navigational kit and the speakers are great and the routing is great.

So, I'm at my work place and followed what I thought were the instructions. That is, I hit the address from the main menu, typed my address (home) and hit "route to." I think it must have created a waypoint for where I was caused it routed me back to the location in my car at my work place.

I tried putting my address in QueFind but that didn't work either. I'm sure I was looking at the wrong instruction in the manual. Basically, I just wanted to get directions to my home address. I'm assuming I can just put somebody's address in my address book and find the route that way. It's also interesting because my home address is where I said it should route to but I guess it established a waypoint on it's own (or somehow I did it inadvertanly).

I'll mess with it a lot tomorrow or later on tonight.

PS: I really want something where I can put it on the vent and not on the dashboard.

Search for Seidio. They do vent mounts.

Either you put the address in the address book, and route from there, or you use QueFind to located the address, and go from there.

Ok, I'm still having trouble with this. I'm able to make a waypoint at my current location but I want it so that I can simply put an address in my address book and route to it.

I was also able to find my intersection. Can somebody walk me through that process where I put the address in the address book and simply route to it.

So far, I have the address in my address book.

Thanks.

PS: I'm guessing I click location.

First you need a waypoint for the address. One way is to tap on Location then select Find, then tap the Search button, then tap OK, then Done. At this point you'll be back in the address listing and the address will be followed by a flag to indicate there is a waypoint for that address.

Then, to route to any address with a waypoint set:
Tap on the address you want to route to.
Tap on the menu at the top of the page (Address View), which then displays Record / Options / Que.
Tap on Que, and under it tap on Route To.

I hope I got all the steps in. Since it seemed a burning question, and our further (and much further) east participants are probably sleeping, I thought I'd try to help. Kit

My problem Kit is that when I do a search for my address, I don't see my specific address location. I have created a waypoint for where I am now, but that doesn't help me if I'm trying to find an address that I don't know where it is?

What if the address you're trying to find is not in the search?

I don't have an iQue to work it out.:(

When I do get it back, I'll have to retrain myself. Just as well these newbies are up to the job, as they'll be my mentors!:)

Can anybody still help. I really can't figure it out. Here's what I think.

You can't route to an address unless it has a location set to it. So if I put the address of my friend, I have to have a location set to it. When I do a search, I don't get the exact address. So, I'm probably going to get something that's close to where I'm going.

Obviously, I can't set the location by map because I wouldn't get the exact place and I can't set it manually either for the same reason. So, if the only way I can set it is by que-find, how do I find an address if it's not listed there?

For some reason, I thought you could just put in an address, any address, and route to it as opposed to the fact that you are limited by what's in the address' database in quefind.

Please tell me I'm wrong.

Thanks.

You won't find waypoints the "address database". Do Find -> Waypoints.

If you are not able to find your address in QueFind, I have to ask "did you download the detailed map for that section of your city?". QueFind needs the detail map to find specific address numbers on less than major roads

Once you have downloaded the detailed map of the address you want to set a location to:

Go to QueFind
Select Addresses
Find you city and select in the city field
Put just the number of the street number in the Number block
Find and select the street in the street field
Add your zip code in that field

Tap the search botton on the screen

If your address come up in the white box below the search button
select it by tapping on it.

Tap on the details button

Then at the bottom of the screen tap on the save Waypoint button

A " new waypoint" screen comes up

Check of the Include Address Data box

Tap on the OK button

You have now recorded a way point you can route yourself to.
Hang in there your almost done and you will only have to do this mess once with each new address.

Now you are ready to route yourself to the waypoint.
Be sure you have the GPS antenna open and you are outside
Go back into Quefind
Select recent finds
Select the address you want to
Tap the "route to button"

Ta Da you should now be on your way.

Ok, I'm going to try that later but...

what if I can't find the address when I do a search?

Also, when you said put just the street number, which should I use: That is, if I live at the following:

1865 SE 2nd Lane
City, State, Zip.

For the street, do I put: 2nd Lane, 1865, or what exactly?

Thanks.

FYI, the above address is a fake address and not my actual address :)

But I'll try what you suggest when I get back to my car in about 20 minutes.

And thanks for all the help. Using this feature is the "primary" reason why I got the ique.

If you have loaded the appropriate detail map try reloading it. I had a similar problem, Quefind Addresses wasn't giving me ANY choices. A quick perusal of previous posts here led to the suggestion of reloading the detail map and that worked!

uhhh, if all else fails, read the destruction manual.

(I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but getting used to the Que software and methods is not intuitive and requires some study of the relevant documentation).

To try and answer your question, you either have to make a waypoint at the location you want to route to (find it on the map), or find an address in the map database using the Find feature. If the address exists, you can add that to your Palm address book and then routing to it becomes much easier. There is a distinct distinction (pun intended) between the Palm address book and the address database in US CS6.

Que find is based upon the following:

City - you click on All and pull down until you find the city

Region - same as city

Number = 1865

Street = 2nd Ln SE is most likely how you'll find it. The "cardinal" numbers are found in the Que after the street .

You'll see the disclaimer at the top "Hint enter 'Main for E Main St;. and then you can tap on the prefix/suffix button to help isolate it even more.

I think the next best way is to select the nearest intersection of two roads near you and use that as the waypoint.

[QUOTE]

Use just 1865 for the number. For the street you may need to experiment try 2nd lane or Second Lane

I've had similar problems trying to find a specific address. Most recently I was trying 'find' the address of a business on I635 (LBJ Freeway) in Dallas. Say the address was 4515 LBJ Freeway for the sake of argument. Quefind would consistantly say 'not found'.
There was no suffix involved, I had the city and Zip specified. I could point on the map around where I knew where the business was and it was listing addresses correctly.
How does Quefind resolve addresses like this on a major highway? It can't have every physical address in the database. I assume it has ranges of street numbers or blocks and it searches within the range.
I finally just set a waypoint 'close' based on trial error of clicking on the map. Not very satisfactory!.
BTW, when I got to the business, I verified the address was correct.
Seems like searching on address leaves something to be desired.

BTW I should have said in the previos post that Quefind was finding the street correctly, it just could not find the street 'number' assocated with the address.

Ok,

Thank you by the way. It works. I did what you suggested.

I was able to not just get directions to my home address, but to my friend's address. I'm loving this thing right now.

I'll read all the other comments later.
