When I sync my PalmV with MS Outlook 2000 (on a Dell Latitude D600), the calendar and contacts doubles and triples and quadruples the entries, instead of just synching - then it says it is out of memory. This happened after I enabled email synching. I stopped the email synching - then emptied my inbox on outlook and then custom sync'd to overwrite the email and essentially erase it. Then I stopped email synching (I get way too many email for this to be productive). However, the doubling and tripling of my outlook calendar and contacts is continuing. I went into the Outlook calendar and deleted all of the duplicates, custom synchd to clean up the PalmV and it looked pretty again - until I Synch'd normally again - then it duplicated the data again. Any idea how I can stop the duplication? I notice that when sync'g it is going back to the 1991 calendar period (long before I bought this new) - whereas I only need current and future months - not sure if this is the cause of the problem. However - I sure would like it back to normal - as when it works properly - it is the most productive tool I own. Please help if you can. :(

What software are you using to sync with Outlook? Right click on the hotsync icon in the system tray and then go to View Log. Copy and paste your last hotsync log in your reply - that might give me an idea about what's happening.

First, you're using an old version of Pocket Mirror. You should go to www.chapura.com and download the free upgrade to version 3.1.6.

Second, it appears from your hotsync log that you have no memory left on your Palm. Do the following:

1. On the handheld tap on the "Home" icon on the bottom left or if you have an older handheld model the icon will say "Applications".
2. Tap on the "Menu" icon, which is the icon located directly below the "Home" icon.
3. From the drop down menu, tap on "Info".
4. On the top of the "Info" screen check for the amount of "Free Memory".

If the free memory is a very small amount or zero, you need to fix this problem before you can sync correctly. One of your problems is probably in e-mail. If you don't have enough free space, the mail won't get deleted. Open the mail application. If all the e-mails are still there, you'll need to deleted them one by one unless one of the options below works.

Pocket Mirror always syncs all the calendar data in Outlook. If you still have data going back to 1991 in your Outlook calendar, that's taking up a lot of room on your Palm. This was always happening but you probably never noticed until you ran out of space when syncing e-mail. You should archive your calendar data in Outlook to no more than two years worth. This will free up a lot of memory when you sync and might allow you to get the mail deleted properly with a hotsync.

To get the mail deleted, go to the Palm Mail application and then Options, Hotsync Options. Change settings to only download unread mail. Mark all your mail as "Read" in Outlook and then sync. This will delete all the mail on your Palm and free up space.

I suspect that all of your problems are due to using up all the Palm's memory with your orignal mail sync. Once you get that solved, you should be able to hotsync normally again. If you want to sync mail, using the "Unread" option will at least limit the amount of mail that gets downloaded. Archiving calendar data in Outlook will still allow you to have access to your past data without taking up tons of memory on your Palm.

Thanks for all your help Jim. I updated the Chapura to the latest version, set calendar (and all others) to archive everything older than 5 months - then did a manual archive to make it happen, deleted all the duplicate (by now quadruplicate) entries in the calendar - set a one time Outlook to Palm sync, did that. Still had a memory problem - then (now that you told me how) checked the memory on the Palm again - the calendar went down considerably - there was nothing in the email - still had only 1K of memory though - so I figured out how to delete all non-essential programs out of the Palm (e.g. had AvantGo, FinanceOne - both big on memory) - then resynch'd doing the proper full resynch. It finished this time - no duplications. Still an error in an old record as you see below (which is weird as the record is older than the archive period of 5 months) - however at least it completed.

Thank you so much for your help. Have a WONDERFULweekend. :)
