Some backgnd

Have Clie N710C running OS 3.5.2 and I'm trying to run mapopolis from the memory stick. Their map of Los Angeles is about 3.5MB so running it straight from RAM is not an option (unless I re-arrange my life!!)

I tried moving that map to memstick but when I tried to run it from there it tried to move it into RAM (no good not enough space)

So I downloaded msmount and moved the map app as well as databases to memstick. I ran it but it wouldn't work for the larger maps (it still looks like its trying to move it to ram)

Any help is appreciated!

With the Palm OS, even when apps can access stuff on the memory stick, the program still needs to load the file into RAM in order to use it. So in your case it needs 3.5 meg of rAM in order to open the map.

You might have to use a program like PiDirectII. It allows most* programs to pull off blocks of data from the memory card, without loading the whole database. I gave it a try with Mapopolis on my Prism - it works for me!! Thanks for motivating me to experiment. Those maps are huge.

Unfortunately more money to spend.

*some programs are not compatible, esp. those that make changes to a database.
