Has anyone had problems installing the City Select North America Update V6 cd? I tried searching the forum but I could not see an error like mine..
I am trying to install City Select North America Update V6 cd onto my pc. I already have City Select North America V5 installed.
After the 2nd CD has finished loading I get the following error in a pop-up window.

Access is denied.
File: Win\win_regkey.h, Line: 478

If I click ok then Mapsource will not load and it says re-install Mapsource.
Even if you re-install Mapsource it still says to reload it. I have to remove V6 to get Mapsource to load and then it is back to V5.

Ideas?

What operating system? I assume it's some sort of Windows. Do you have administrative rights enabled?

I am running Windows 2000 Professional and I am a member of the Administrators group. It is a company pc but I have never had problems installing software and the machine is not 'locked-down'. I also created a localuser that had full rights and that had the same error.

I haven't been able to install any of the Garmin software, including the Garmin version of the Palm desktop yet on Win2000 Pro. I can install anything at all on that machine, but not the Garmin stuff. Grrrrr, imagine that, not being able to play with Betty's maps while at work., The nerve of them!

Well, my two cent: I think somehow your registry is write protected. Maybe an so called anti virus program did that and "protects" you? Maybe the policy of your computer doesn't allow you to _change_ settings, even ir you're allowed to add new programs? Windows tends to be wired...............

Bye for now Gottfried

I finally got it to install. I looked at one of the other threads where they were deleting the files from older maps.
I used regedt32 and found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin
I had full permissions but in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Famil ies\ showed I had no properties. So in security I set full permissions and checked the box inherited properties and everything went sweet.

Thanks..
