I'm going to be needed to replace my Handsrping Visor Prism soon, and have been looking around at the alternatives. The Handspring Treo looks nice, but I use my folding keyboard a LOT, and as far as I know, Handspring has no plans for a compatible keyboard. I like the Palm 515 -- nice color, more memory and there is a keyboard that you could get to use with it. Plus, I can use all of my current Palm OS software with it. But when I went to Best Buy this morning to look at the Palm, the salesman there was really pushing the Sony Clie. The screen has a lot more resolution than the Palm, but the colors are pretty washed out. He kept saying "You get more for your money" with the Clie, but was unable to be specific about that claim. He was showing me the PEG-T615C and the SJ30, both comparitively prices with the Palm.

Has anyone out there used both Palm and Clie? Or is anyone in a position to compare the two as to which is more reliable, has better battery life or better features and/or is easier to use?

Thanks,
Ruby Vee

They are all good units. Forget the treo if you don't need the phone part of it. Lets assume that's the case.
The sj30, m515, and t615 are all very similar. Same memory(I think, 16 mb). Same speed(33mhz). Similar size, weight. Personally I would get a clie. I like the resolution, they are small(slightly smaller I believe, than the m515), and I just like clies. If you want a keyboard, you may want the m515, as clie keyboards are few and expensive. Cheers

The m515 and SJ30 run at 33MHz. The 615 was discontinued. It was replaced by the 665, which runs at 66MHz. The 665 costs more than the SJ30 and m515 - you get what you pay for.

Sony recently started selling the KB11, a re-labeled Stowaway keyboard.

Battery life on the Palm is way better than any Sony. Sony's have high resolution screens.

They all use PalmOS, so ease of use is the same. Each has its own feel. Try them out at the store to see which you like better.

More ways to spend money. Get the extended warranty if you go Sony. Sony's warranty is only 3 months, and their customer service is poor. Palm is 12 months. You can negotiate down the price if you get the extended warranty.

If you like the Clié, I have a Sony PEG-N760C with all of the original equipment for $200+SH (negot.). It also has a new leather case which is much better than the old flip case. I got a Palm 515 for my wife from a friend and don't need both. Problem is the Palm doesn't play audio files like the Clié and it is true, the screen on the Sony is has a much higher resolution with a greater backlight controller.
But, Sony has reconditioned Cliés online http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=FqA1RbRMVxI1YImG248_TvtAQqZb1JylZxA=?Cat alogCategoryID=FWoKC0%2eNAmUAAADxrABRHlfK&Dept=hp as well as the Palm http://store.palm.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1179667. Good luck on your shopping spree.
