Hi,

I upgraded from a Visor Pro. Thanks to Mooseman's advice, I was easily able to bring over all the data from that device to my Treo 600, but here are my questions:

1. Changes that I enter on addresses in the Palm desktop Address Book do not hot sync to the device.

2. Device is set to synchronize with Outlook. Does this mean that all changes must go through Outlook?

3. Does the Palm Desktop Address display do anything???

4. I now have many duplicates in the PDA. The old files from the Visor Pro and those that I also have in Outlook. Any way to easily deduplicate?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

1. Set to sync to Outlook so it won't do anything.
2. Yes
3. No.
4. Within Outlook? see below.

If the device is set to sync to Outlook then all edits and changes need to be done in Outlook to be reflected on the handheld. The Palm desktop in such a case is not functioning as on your old Visor.

There are a couple of programs out there that will sync between the Palm Desktop and Outlook and keep both up to date but I've never found them to be reliable. Besides they aren't necessary since you can only sync to one.

If you've got duplicates and your going to keep syncing them in Outlook then the easiest way would be to go into Outlook and change the view to category or phone list and see the duplicates there and delete them one at a time via the PC.

You can also obtain a program called EZMaintain from PalmGear and it will remove most of them provided that they are identical.

Check in the Outlook view described above and see if you can't easily see a difference in categories etc to sort the records by and then delete them.

I'm wondering though, how did the duplicates occur? If you originally did not have these contacts in Outlook and sync'd the Treo the first time to Outlook when you upgraded they shouldn't have dup'd. If some were in Outlook and some were part of the upgrade process from the Visor then I guess it's possible but I haven't seen it happen.

Thanks, Moose. You're great to take the time to answer these questions.

I took your advice and de-duped on Outlook Contacts and set the Hot Sync to have the desktop overwrite the handheld. The Sync left the Outlook Contacts fine, but the Treo is still loaded with duplicates.

What do you think is going on?

Also - If you have the time - why does the Treo periodically vibrate. Phone is set to vibrate [gotta love it], but there are no calls or mssgs. Is there an alarm function that somehow got set that I'm missing?

Thanks again!

Item one the duplicates. Are you sure that you are only syncing to Outlook via the Treo? If you cleared out the dupes in Outlook and your hotsync was set to Desktop overwrites Handheld then they should have cleared.

Post your hotsync log and let me see what it looks like and then I can better advise.

Vibrate Issue: You must have a todo set with an alarm or a meeting set with an alarm. If you've missed an alarm...the Treo should have a * in the upper left hand corner reminding you to check off whatever was missed. If you tap on the * it should tell you what was set.
