Just a few weeks into surfing the web with my new Ipaq 3870, sony Ericsson T68i and GPRS subscription. And generally it works!

The only problem is that I can't send any mail. I think the problem I have is that my email provider uses POP3 for incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing mail. I cannot get the SMTP in my E-mail setup.

Can someone help me?

Well SMTP is the defacto protocol for sending email, POP3 is just for accessing the mail from the server. When you are setting up the account in PocketOutlook Setup Screen (5/5) called "Server Information" has an incoming and outgoing mail text boxes. The incoming is where the POP3 server name or IP goes and the Outgoing is where the SMTP server name or IP goes. It is not uncommon for these two settings to be different. You will need to contact the e-mail provider and make sure that you have the correct POP3 and SMTP address.

hi,

The bluetooth connection between my 3870 and T68I works perfectly. GPRS works OK. Emails are quite fast when they are just flat text. For internetpages you have to look for special PDA portals with minimized content (no pics etc.). Normal sites can be loaded but are usually quite slow.

I pay 15 Euro's (it's about 15 USD at the moment) a month for 5 MB datatransfer. This is my first month so I don't know whether the 5MB will sufficient.

Greetings,
René

PS: Still not able to send email. Keep getting messages like "Invalid message recipients" from my System administrator. Even when I reply to received mails.
Anyone?

Noticed that you've got a GPRS account - you may need to put in your GPRS providers SMTP address if they have one - rather than your ISP's. This problem can arise due to incompatibilities between your ISP's server and the GPRS domain itself.

hope this helps!

Finally got things working. I'm using the email account my GPRS provider assigned to me. In settings for the outgoing mailser I had to put "authsmtp" in front of the 'normal' server name.
Thanks to all!
