I have been using my Palm V in conjunction with my old Power Mac G3 for several years now with few problems. I recently upgraded to an iMac on which I am running Mac OS9.2 (which I was also running on my G3). When (during the process of transferring applications from my old computer to the new one) I put a copy of Instant Palm Desktop into my extensions folder on my new iMac, the computer wouldn't boot up properly. The desktop screen came up but no icons or menus appeared. When I disabled the Instant Palm Desktop extension and restarted the problem disappeared. I tried to reinstall the software from the original CD, but it wasn't compatible with my new computer.

I am running Palm Desktop 2.1

Also is there any kind of USB cable available for the Palm V since the iMac has no serial port?

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Thanks,

Nell

Lets start with the USB; you will need to purchase a serial to USB adaptor. Before you buy a serial to USB adaptor check the adaptor makers website for drivers for your version of Mac OS. This is the single most important step. If your serial to USB driver is out of date, you will have more trouble getting the Palm to talk to the Mac. Belkin and Keyspan make these adaptors.

YOU might want to consider running Virtual PC. Just a thought.

Check out the Palm.com site for the new Desktop. YOurs is way too old. No USB support.

Would running virtual PC enable me to use an older version of Adobe Reader for Palm OS (v 1.1 I think) that's only available for Windows? The new version of Adobe Reader (v 2.0 i think) which works on MAC OS requires Palm OS 3.5 or higher and I cannot upgrade to 3.5 with my Palm V.

Thanks for the help.

Virtual PC may be a work around. It will be trial and error.

It may be time to get a least a Vx. Prices on the 515 are very good!
