Hi

I need to surf the Internet over bluetooth from my IPAQ 3870 PDA using my Sony Ericcson P800 Mobile Phone. I have enabled my P800 to make use of ORANGE GPRS WAP PAY AS YOU GO which works fine on my P800. I can browse google etc.

I have tried numerous attempts to surf the Internet from my IPAQ 3870 using a bluetooth GPRS connection. I have followed various step-by-step guides with no success :-(.

I have successfuly managed to bond the two devices and they connect ok but when trying to browse a website on my PDA, IE reports that the page cannot be found.

Settings:
On my connections tab on the IPAQ I have created a new connection called GPRS and selected the Bluetooth Dialup Modem. I have left the TCP/IP and Name Servers to automatically assign IP addresses. The phone number dials *99# and the extra dial-string command is "+CGDCONT=1,"IP","orangeinternet"

When I click connect on my IPAQ, the bluetooth connection is established but the GPRS icon does not appear on the phone as it usually does when surfing web pages on the P800.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks

Nathan

I used my P800 £ 3630 to surf the internet with no problems. I'll look at the settings on my P800 when I get home from work tonight. I have a new phone now.

Thanks :-)

Just spent the last hour talking to Orange about this problem.

They suggest using the following settings for connecting my IPAQ 3870.

TCP/IP:AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNED
DNS: 158.43.192.1
ALT: 158.43.128.1

PHONE NO: *99#
+cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet"

Orange also confirm that GPRS is enabled and working ok from my P800. After an hour trying to diagnose the problem, the IPAQ still fails to open a GPRS connection via my P800.

I have the latest firmware updates for my IPAQ 3870.

So now I have confirmed the correct settings from Orange, I wonder if its an issue with either the P800 phone or IPAQ 3870.

Sheer frustration comes to mind. :-)

OK here we go.
Control panel - connections - internet accounts
Orange.net GPRS (or whatever you called it) - edit,
Account name - as you named it
Connection type -GPRS,
Advanced - username & password required - unticked
Address - orangeinternet.
Log in - get ip address automatically - ticked
Get DNS address automatically - ticked
Proxy - use proxy server - unticked
Other - enable ppp extensions ticked- authentication - normal
QOS - header compression - unticked
precedence - subscribed
delay - subscribed
relability - class3
peak rate - subscribed
mean rate - subscribed.
These are all the settings on my P800.
My Ipaq has been wiped clean so I can't check it.
There is another setting under connections
When you click cable there is a setting for pc connect or modem, mine is set to modem, likewise with I.Red.

I had the same problem with mine. Did you set username to "user" on the Ipaq connection? and password to...whatever orange told you I've forgotten what. Pass I think????

hi

thanks for the info, but unfortunately I am still having the same problem. Its strange how the IPAQ is able to successfully connect via bluetooth, but does not launch GPRS. I have also tried launching GPRS manually from the P800 phone and then create a connection from the IPAQ to see if the IPAQ can then browse, but still no luck :-(

Will try experimenting with a new 5450 IPAQ to see if I am having the same problem, and will also try another bluetooth phone.

Hi
i have an ipaq 4150 and have the same problem.
only difference is that in the extra dial string theres this bit. (note previous replies had a 1 where mine has a 5)

+cgdcont=5,"IP","orangeinternet"

but same problem, phone connecting with ipaq with bluetooth, GPRS connection opened but then nothing, keep getting error message saying that the internet page cannot be opened.

my ipaq is fine as i've used my vodafone T610 with it via bluetooth/gprs and have no problems.

any input appreciated.
