Hi Ian

Sorry for the delay in replying to your message - I've been away for a while.

You're not alone - I have exactly the same problem! I cannot get any of my Psions to send SMS via my P800. I've tried using Phoneman Pro, as well as the Psion's own e-mail/SMS app, but to no avail.

My older Ericsson R520m works just fine for Psion-originated SMS, so goodness knows what is amiss with the UIQ devices. Can anybody shed any light?

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the answer maybe that will add power to my post and someone will figure out an answer. I also use an R520 and also tried with Phone Man Pro - maybe Zenobyte themselves might come up with a solution. Unfortunately I don't own a P800 or 900 so I can't experiment with modem settings if that's the problem.
Kind Regards
Ian

Hi again Ian

So, can you send SMS OK with the R520 then? Mine works fine with the SMS facility within the normal Psion e-mail app, so I was amazed to find the P800 would not co-operate in the same way.

For the record, I recently had my P800 updated to the latest firmware, in the hope it would resolve the problem, but alas, no.

Hi Julie
Yes absolutely no trouble at all but I prefer to use Phoneman Pro as I find it works much faster than the email program. I think I am going to write to the guys at Zenobyte and ask if they have a solution or any ideas regarding this.
Best Regards

Ian

Did you make any progress on this one, out of interest?

Hi Julie
No Luck at all I'm afraid, but strangely enough no problem at all with the Symbian based Nokia phones, so I suspect it's somethig Sony Ericsson have done. Didn't have a chance to play with P910 yet as it's only just abiout to be released here, but I'm not being too hopeful on that one.
All the best

It's a pain, isn't it? I find I'm back using my old Ericsson R520m phone some of the time now - I find it just too frustrating trying to send SMS from the P800 when I've been used to rattling off messages on the netBook keyboard.

I'm not doing too well with the P800's onscreen keyboard, nor with handwriting recognition.

Hi Julie
I do understand, no matter what people say about my vintage R520 I just know it works. I was helping someone hooking up their Nokia to a Bluetooth PC - Needed software downgrade ?! R520 just worked;)
Handwriting recognition takes a bit of practice but it's better than a P.lm.
Talking of keyboards I just discovered a fold out bluetooth keyboard that can work with most Symbian phones - take a look at www.thinkoutside.com US$149.00.
Not as nice as the compact Psion but it is a work around solution

Tell me are you using the Symbian/Epoc Netbook or the new WindowsCE.net version, just had a chance to play with one - not bad btu really start to appreciate the fore thought of the Psion designers with EPOC & SYMBIAN

All the best

Hi Ian

I actually think the P800's handwriting recognition is quite impressive, it's just that I'm used to touch typing at speed so I find handwriting of any kind slow and frustrating. The netBook keyboard is absolutely excellent for touch typing. I did acquire a Pocketop IR keyboard to use with the P800, but haven't managed to get it to work.

My netBook is a good old Epoc/Symbian one. Had it four years and love it just as much as the day I got it - in fact even more since I got it a WiFi card. I'm not particularly impressed with the new Netbook Pro at this point in time, I have to say - it doesn't really fit my needs. I'm hoping my netBook soldiers along for a good long time yet!
