Hi Folks
I have a Jornada 720 and I used to be able to run activesync over a Network connection to my desktop, but now this options does not seem to work anymore. It gives me the message "PC Contacted... locating connection agent" then this dialog disappears and nothing more happens. Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this problem?
WHAT I HAVE TRIED ALREADY:
1. I have reinstalled the OS on the Jornada 720 (removed all the batteries) and started from ROM and it still does not fix the problem.
2. I also tried reloading ActiveSync on an a different PC and trying it and rebuilding a partership with the new PC and that didn't seem to fix the problem either.

I had the same problem.
I think it depends on an incorrect configuration of the LAN settings on dial up or remote conection (to verify if this is the real problem you can try a remote connection with a single desktop PC out of a LAN enviroment).
I have solved the problem putting on dial up the correct LAN settings.

Could you clarify how you solved the problem? I'm having the same thing happen with my 690 and my ethernet connection. Strangly enough, I can connect to the web without problems but I cannot see my main computer through the network connection to transfer files. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my Jornada, and it turned out that the pocketpc could not resolve the name of my desktop to an IP address (no WINS on my home network).
I used a product called Pocket Hosts at
http://www.zimac.de/software.htm
to resolve this problem... and it worked like a charm (and can be configured for multiple IP addresses for the same host which you can "check" on or off).
The site
http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/networktrouble.htm
was an excellent resource that finally led me to the conclusion.
It suggested another freeware program called vxUtil which helped me figure out the problem and has a bunch of utilities in it. It is located at:

Yes; the problem on connecting to Active sync over the network is one of hosts identification.
You can add or modify hosts in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts which I modify using RegEditCE from www.grundlesoftware.com
The KEY has to be name of your desktop. My keys have 2 items: a) Multiple strings "aliases" empty and b) binary "ipaddr" with the ip address of your host on HEX.
Also you have to set on network configuration (START->settings->control panel-> network -> adapters -> properties -> name servers-> Primary WINS) the ip address of your host.
Using the HOSTS editor seems more simple but I could not make that program run in a Jornada680 and I already had teh tools and knowledge when I got the 720.
¡Suerte!
