Just bought my Daughter a Palm M130 with a Pocket Keyboard. She is 14 y/o, and an Honor Student with aspirations of going to Medical School. Hence, the reason I'm getting her started in PDA's.
I have a few questions to help me get her started.
What is with www.palm.com? I can't get on, to even register my product.
Do the M130 Batteries need any special charging cycle routine to precondition the batteries?
If I purchase SD Carded Software, can I copy the program over to a blank SD Card? I would hate to have her lose a SD program card. Not interested in any illegal activity or distribution, just interested in protecting my software investment.
What would be the minimum size SD Memory Expansion Card should I get? I'm guessing 32MB.
Finally, can someone reccomend a Freeware English/Spanish program, and a Brandname Program to buy?
Oh... I got this M130 at OfficeMax for 249.99 minus 50.00 discount minus 50.00 Rebate. A/R A/C =150.00

1). Palm.com... connection problems. Never had a moments problem. Is this the only site your browser has difficulty with?
2). Fully charge and then deplete almost to empty the first couple of cycles. At least that seems to be the prevailing thought. No real memory effect.
3). I have not tried to copy off a copy righted SD. SyncWizard can probably do it. Check it out on demo from PalmGear.com.
4). At her age I suspect she will not need TAbers or other large medical references but 64 is only a few dollars more so why not 64?
5). English - Spanish with a medical twist or just the basics?

www.palm.com is the only site I can't connect to. I disable my firewall, and still can't connect.
As far as Spanish, my Daughter is in High School level Spanish now, so I'm looking for a General spanish program. I know palm has a PalmPack Language Translator Card. I fully intend to buy a program. Would settle with a Freeware program until I decide on buying a program.
Thanks DrMud for your help...

http://www.freewarepalm.com/ is a great place to find plenty of references I have been using BDicty public primarily some of the lexicons are pretty bare bones but the range of subjects that are covered is great (especialy if you are not paying for them) Also avantgo has an encarta channel that is pretty extensive as far as functional spanish.
good luck

I'll drop a line to tech at Palmgear regarding your problem.
I know there are some free dictionary applications in the "gallery" of apps that use HanDBase as the DataBase app. I use HandBase for a number of data gathering objectives and I love it. If she could benefit from HAndBAse and the miriad of apps that are free that may be a direction to consider. Check outt DDHSoftware.com.
Also I agree with Mike the BDicty group is admirable.

The spanish-english dictionary I use is called LT ENG-SPA. It's ok, but it dosn't sort definitons by common use. It's the best I could find for freeware, though.

www.palm.com works for me. It redirects to: http://www.palm.com/us/ This comes up much faster (no re-direct?).
I have used the BDicty (public/free) with Eng-French and French-Eng dictionaries. I liked it. Great value for what you pay, $0
I don't know about backing up an SD content card. Perhaps you could look into eBooks that can be stored on a regular SD card. Then you could keep the backup on your PC. One 128MB SD card could hold plenty of books, programs, etc. Check out:

for eBooks you might want to buy for your kid.

Thanks...I got www.palm.com working. My Dlink 604 Router was blocking my access to this Web Site. As it turned out my router was due for a Firmware Update.
Since I got to the Palm Site, I gave my daughter her M-130 after dinner. Talk about Excited...
Thanks to all for your help today,
Bruce

See if you can get in on the $50 rebate:
http://store.palm.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1163593
I pulled up the rebate coupon, and it did not specify that the m130 needed to be purchased from the Palm online store.

Sent the Rebate in this morning. Also ordered a M515 from Staples.
The M515 also has a $50.00 Rebate.
The Terms are 1 rebate per purchase, and a limit of ten per household.
Thanks,
Bruce :)

Lexica (http://www.qvadis.com/lexica/viewer.html) is a dictionary system by Qvadis (http://www.qvadis.com) that is excellent, and includes an English-Spanish-English module.
