Hello Group!

Quick question..........

I plan on getting a new Palm m515 to replace my old / worn out one that's running on a LOW battery and has been fairly abused. I want to keep everything on it (and it's expansion card as well.....as it is bursting at the seems with stuff). It would take forever and a day to reconfigure all of this.

When I get the new Palm m515 can I simply install the old card into the new handheld and then sync to get all of my data to it? How does this work / what are the steps (in sequence)?
Do I hot sync first (what will it ask for)? Or do I put the old card in the slot first?

OR ............................................ is this simply not going to work (i.e.- it ain't that easy kid)?

Thanks for any advice folks!!

First, put the existing card in the slot of the new 515. Next, sync using your existing username, not a new one. When you're done, you new 515 should look just like the old one. The only thing that might not come across would be a few preference settings but 99% of everything on the old Palm will be on the new Palm.

Hey thanks Jim.

If you were going to purchase a new handheld but had alot of stuff that simply won't work with OS version 5, what would you suggest purchasing? I've just been fairly pleased with the m515, but if there's something better out there, I would consider it. Heck, I still may even just take the plung and upgrade the entire OS to 5 + ??? Just concerned that doing something like what I'm thinking about (above) on OS 5 may not be a great idea.

Cheers,

Going from an OS 4 machine to an OS 5 machine is not painless. There are hacks that won't run under OS 5 unless you purchase a third party program and I just have too many hacks and other programs I know won't work under OS 5 to make it worth my while to upgrade. When OS 6 finally comes out, I'll think seriously about it then since there are some real advantages to OS 6. The switch from OS 4 to OS 5 has a lot less advantages except for a speedier processor and better wireless capability, two things that aren't that important to me now.

I had an M515 and got a Clie T665 to replace it. It's the fastest OS 4 machine and the high resolution is something you just can't live without once you've seen it. It's been a reliable machine for the past year. I'd look for a refurbished or good used T665. They are selling in the $100-$150 range depending on condition and accessories and I think it's the best OS 4 deal you can make.

Thanks Jim.

One last thing ............. would there be ANY sort of difference other than what we discussed earlier? (i.e.- put the existing card in the slot of the Clie T665 . Next, sync using the existing username, not a new one. When I'm done, the new Clie T665 should look just like the old one)?????? Same Palm Desktop and everything????

Cheers Jim!!!
