zire 71 with palm modem

Has anyone used the zire 71 with a palm modem. I purchased the modem viz ebay and I can't get it to dialup to my ISP for e-mail and browsing. I have tried different settings in the preferences but it just gives me the modem not found error (0x1106).

If I set the hotsync to use the modem and set the prefs to connect direct to the computer it will initialize and dial, but it I set it to dial into a network it cannot find the modem.

I did have avantgo installed, but I have uninstalled that software and reset the palm using the switch on the back.

I would like to use the modem to check and send e-mail while I am travelling so any help would be appreciated.

Which model Palm modem do you have? Only the P10821U modem works with the Zire 71. Other models work with OS 4.1 and earlier Palms only.

I think the modem model is A02-0060JP.

If it's not the right model, then I guess I have a modem to sell.

I'm afraid so. That's the model that was sold for the Palm V/Vx and only works with pre-OS 5 Palm's.
