Recently, I find out Amazom.com is selling a wireless internet cable (made by a company called Gomadic) that connects the Ique 3600 to a cell phone for complete wireless web access. It is advertised with the following features:

Features:

Connects PDA to Cell Phone for complete wireless web access and data connectivity
Supports the Garmin iQUE 3600 series handheld PDA
Works with all Motorola C343, C353, T720, T730, V60, V70, V120, V200, V300, V400, and V600 phones
No separate hardware, software or service plans required
Professionally engineered and built; full lifetime warranty

Gomadic also makes cable for other brands of cell phones.

Does anyone on the forum has any experience with this kind of wireless web access using the 3600. ?

I bought a cable from these guys for my Samsung A520 and all worked as advertised ... until the little pin on their cable broke. Pretty delicate stuff and a tad expensive for something so fragile.

I bough the Gomadic cable for Ericsson phones and it works fine. I find the connectors good quality, better than the DIY UC conenctors that GOmadic also sell.

Only, I don't use the wireless conenction. Takes too much time, hard to read, screen to small, too costly etc...

Before I had my treo 600, I often used my motorola phone with the gomadic cable. Sometimes it was a bit tough to get it connected to the universal connector properly (garmin's fault, not gomadic), the cable worked great, and I found their support wonderful.

Regarding the broken pin (or whatever it was) I bet if you called gomadic, they would replace it, probably free.

I am fascinated with the idea of using the Gomadic wireless internet cable with my iQue and Motorola T720 phone. I have Verizon service.

Can anyone tell me more about this? Do you need to pay for extra service from Verizon for the web? If so, what is it called?

Can you go to any internet site? Or are you limited?

Do you need a browser for your iQue? Which one would you recommend?

Basically I would just like to talk to someone via email more about this since I am ignorant of how this all works.

Most cell phones and wireless services to-day allow you to send/receive e-mail (including text and multi-media messaging) and browse the web (right on you cell phone). Some cell phone services will even provide navigation service (if your cell phone has a GPS receiver). The problem as I understand is the cost.

I understand that you can do this on your cell phone. BUT, for me the cell phone screen is just too small and I hate using the number keypad to type anything in. So I don't use my cell phone for email, etc.

I might be interested in doing it on my iQue however. But I need to find out more first.

For instance, what does the web look like on the iQue? I am almost going to have to try it to know.

I just though maybe someone on here had used the Gomadic wireless cable and could answer in more detail.

Or perhaps I should contact Gomadic and see if I could buy the cable and return it if it doesn't work out for me. That's an idea.

Think about the web, back in 1993. Thats about what it looks like normally. The browser compacts PDA compatible sites, and ditches un needed information, so you have some color, and your text and links. At present, big websites are tough to get on because of all the scrolling. BUT, most of the browsers have links to PDA formatted sites. You will know the difference when you view it.

Normally, they have some start page on the browsers, and most of those links go to PDA formatted sites.

It works fine if you are just needing to check up on something or even to browse a bit. Beyond that, you keep wishing you had your laptop with you....

I think wireless goes with Internet part of the phase, not the cable.

Hey, not with the 360, but I found two other great places that can help you get your PDA connected to the Internet. If you want to do it manually it might take some time. If you are up for it Geekzone has a good tutorial that helps you configure and share the internet by using your Bluetooth enabled desktop or notebook with internet access as an internet gateway for your iPAQ Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003:

Otherwise you can get software that does it for you. This is what I have found to be the easiest way:
