I was going from portland down to santa barbara and when i hit san fransisco, the ique guided me to go around a lake in san fran. I could of just taken I-5 all the way down. Is there anyway I could of done this differently. My quidance was set to shortest route but it definetly took longer. I know I could have detoured it but I trusted the ique. Any ideas??????

:p :p :) :( :D ;)

This happens occasionally. Apply common sense to all calculated routes, before starting out to follow them.

The reason could be several things, like some map data error, faults in the route generation algorithm in the iQue or bad luck.

Yes I agree, common sense prevails. Whenever I go to Manchester Airport from my home on the Wirral betty insists that I go through the Mersey Tunnel and through Liverpool, despite the tunnel being a 'toll' (avoid tolls on) and the route to the motorway (m62) being clogged with traffic lights and slow traffic.

I've got the fastest route turned on and the motorway (m53) is just a couple of miles away from where I live and once I am on it she accepts my route and recalculates, usually giving me 5 or 6 minutes off the route she had calculated.

The fact is the route I take is longer I admit but much quicker as it is all motorway. I take that route often and she has yet to accept that I am right. Id like to think that maybe one day if I did listen to her and actually drove those roads she would see that!

I'd also like to see garmin add the mersey tunnels as toll roads, I mean th eoldest of the two tunnels has been open since 1934 and I don't mean 26 minutes to 8.

Report the error on Navteq's webpage. Probably the fastest way to get a change into the map.

I have had this happen too. The most extreme example is going from Des Moines Iowa to St Louis Missouri. Miss Garmin routes me through Illinois on interstates, but the route we have been taking for years through SE Iowa is a full hour shorter!

I do get her to admit this error though. Her initial route is 7 hours, and after entering no less than 5 vias (she is very stubborn and tries to put me on the other side of the Missouri River at every chance), the route time is 6 hours!

However, she does not learn from her errors, as I can enter the destination right now, and she will put me right back on her route!

A less extreme example is on the multitude of small roads in the eastern side of Wisconsin. We have been going to a race track there for 40 years, and she still does not know the fastest way there.

Now, she can be very good to me even when following a familiar route. For example, going to the track in Wisconsin, there was a mighty detour, she gave me a much better alternate that saved probably 20 minutes instead of following the DOT designated route. Which is why I still use her even on familiar routes.

Cheers...
Scott

What shot of nitrous do you run on the Accord, and how quick in the 1/4 mile?

thanks to all that replied. I guess I have look at the route before I follow it.

Note about my car. I have a 50 shot NOS kit installed. 1/4 mile with all the extras at the raceways is 12.6s.

in montreal we have 2 highways, 1 major *40* and one thats quicker most of the time *20*

even if i am at 10 feet of the on ramp for the 20 Betty will send me accross the city through a multitude of small streets to get to the major slow highway.

once im on the 20 its all good though..

12.6 seconds is a little hard to swallow. and the stock internals wont handle a 50shot for too long.

what else have you done to the car? what year, trim is it?

me being a fellow accord owner too. :D

I have a 90 Honda Accord Exr. It has a H22A conversion with LSD. Aem cold air intake, Dc headers, Apexi N1 catback exhaust, Sparco spark plug cables. 50 shot is not that big of a shot of NOS. Most guys out here just add that to there stock car.

Thanks for all the info.

Or, you could buy a Z06 Vette like me and not add all that stuff, and do the 1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds.

More to the point, however: I've had several occasions with the 3600 of going my own way, compared to Betty's (southern california, taking the I-5 instead of the I-405) and of course I get the "off route, recalculating" message. Why does she INSIST on sending me back the other way, when after even halfway to my destination, the route I'm on is shorter and faster. Instead of recalculating to the new highway, it insists on getting me back to the original route. Like it's stuck on that route.

Another problem: when it does that, it sometimes keeps repeating "off route, recalculating" over and over, even up to 5-7 times, with a blank screen and no map showing.

Any help?
