Recived my Axim x30 (624) about a week ago and noticed here that there is an update. 1) How do I determine whether I should apply that update (the Dell site is not very clear). My machine is new; Does it require it? And 2) will this update act as a hard reset and wipe out all my installed software? Thanks in advance.

1> Many people reported that recently shipped Axims (after July) do have latest ROM, you can check via Setting--System Info.

2> Yes, ROM upgrade will hard reset the unit and erase all user installed programs and data.

If you have an SD card do a backup to that card, then after the update do a restore from the back up. all PIM data will then reload.

Actually, it is strongly recommeded that you do NOT restore data from backup afer ROM upgrade. There may be some old registry values left from previous ROM version that's not compatible with new ROM and cause unpredictable problems. You should re-install applications and create new partnership and sync the PIM data from desktop's Outlook instead.

Thanks!! My system information lists the ROM as A02. I'm I cool then?
