I will be at a hotel with dataports in each room. I don't have the fancy bluetooth phone...yet.
I was wondering if I can, if I locate a cable, connect my pda (h1945) to the dataport? Seems like it should be a no-brainer, just hook to the port. Can it be done?
Thanks.

No, you would need either a modem card or ethernet card (depending upon the type of dataport in the room) to enable the iPaq to use this data port. The sync port on the iPaq is not directly compatible with these ports. It needs a hardware interface to convert the data.

Hmm... I'm starting to see that I will need a BT modem that connects to the dataport, then the PPC can talk to it using BT.

Where can I get one cheap? Say less than $100? I don't need fancy, just function.

Are you referring to ethernet port? Then no, the cable does not exist, the ipaq does not have ethernet capability built-in and the port on 1900 series also does not have usb or serial host capability. One way to do it is to get sd wifi card for the ipaq and a wifi router, connect the router to the ethernet port and connect ipaq to the router via sd wifi card. You can also use bluetoth access point such as this:

or

But the speed will be slower than wifi method.

It's an RJ-11 port, I checked with the hotel.

Blah!
All I can find are the access points that support hi-speed cable or ISDN. What I am looking for is something to plug into a dial-up jack and have it talk to my ipaq. Grr...
If I can't check my email for a weekend, I might go nuts!
