Okay,

First thing I'd do is uninstall Psiwin and run the registry cleaner .inf file, which you'll find in my FAQ at the URL in my sig. Then install Psiwin again - this will ensure you've got a nice clean base install to work from.

If you only have one serial port, make sure that there is no software open that is 'holding' that port, such as Miscrosoft's own Synchronisation Manager program, mobsync.exe (in fact even Internet Explorer has even been known to do this ).

From here on in, there is a complete explanation of how to troubleshoot serial connection in my FAQ. Have a go at this and let us know how you get on. One thing, is your laptop a Dell? I have seen more than a couple of reports of problems with Dell laptops...

where is device manager on xp? Click "Start" and, in the list on the right side, "right click" on My Computer and select 'Properties'. Select the 'Hardware' tab and click the button for 'Device Manager'.

If you have installed the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, as I have, you can just "right click" this in the usual way and select properties etc.

As far as connecting with PsiWin 2.3.3 is concerned, use Diem's guidelines to help you.
