I was trying to load a trial application (about 200k) to my palm by hot sync. When trying to load file via hot sync, the hot sync begins and indications are normal but I get a message on the PDA that the connection is lost near the end of the tranfer and the files are not sent to the Palm device. It takes a PC reboot to restore the connection. Hot sync runs fine when I turn off the Install feature of hotsync or when there are no files selected to load. I thought this might have been a file problem but trying to load Sub Hunt (18k) from the original CD produced the same results. I'm on windows 98 with a USB connection to the palm cradle. I'm using a Palm m125 with OS 4.0.1. I have about 6 meg of memory available (no expansion card) so it should load. I was able to load the trial application file with my lap top that uses windows 2000 and a serial port. I tried the most recent version of Palm Desktop with no luck. Any ideas you might have?

Ah, good old Windows 98. The first thing I'd advise is upgrading to WinXP but we'll leave that for another time. :)
For your immediate problem, go to http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=46,E=0000000000036235486,K=4169,Sxi=9,useTempl ate=Case.tem,CASE=5563 and read about how to use the developer's backdoor. This will shut off the timout and will allow long hotsyncs. If the developers backdoor works then that alone may fix the problem since it also resets other sync parameters. If you still have a problem, copy and post your hotsync log here so we can see if that reveals any more information.

Tried the back door but no luck, the hot sync goes through the cycle to point where it states 'cleaning up' then I get the message stating the connection is lost.
here's the log results
HotSync operation started 09/01/04 19:17:27
- Install failed: C:\Palm\MohrT\Install\Subhunt.prc
Install synchronization failed
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
HotSync operation complete 09/01/04 19:18:33
If nothing works i'll just keep the pda synced to the lap top.
yes good old windows 98. I figured kids applications would force me to upgrade, but heck, I still use windows 3.1 on a 486 for non-internet applications.
