Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : MP3 Files
when I transfer mp3 files to my dell pda it takes forever. When it is copying the window says "copy and convert to mobile format". It takes hours to copy a cd worth of mp3 files to the pda.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix. help.

Are you using Windows media player to transfer the files over? If the files are already in mp3 format, there's no need to covert them. Connect the pocketpc to the desktop via the cradle, make sure activesync starts, open file explorer on the desktop, browse to Mobile Device (that's the pocketpc) then just copy and paste your mp3 to it normally (My Documents folder is a good place to copy them to). If you store mp3 files on a storage card, you can use usb card reader that plugs into desktop and copy the files to it directly.
Using a USB card reader is the fastest way to get files onto the device.

Yes, I agree. If you've never used a card reader, you'll be very pleasantly surprised at how fast things will become. I copied a CD of music over via activesync (serial port - to be fair) and it took a few hours. The same CD copied to a USB card reader took less than a minute.
Thanks, I had tried the card reader but for some reason Windows Media player did not like the format of the MP3 files?
Should WMP on the Pocket PC be able to read regular MP3 files.
Should I be using a different media player on my Pocket PC instead of Windows Media Player?

WMP should be able to play mp3 files unless the bitrates is very low or very high. For alternatives to WMP, take a look in this thread;
