New to this forum. I'm planning to replace my sony T665c --- need some suggestions for replacements. Not interested in the phone/PDA combos --- want most of the features on the 665, but NEED voice activation/recorder. Looking at the Zire72, but want some feedback. Anyone out there with some constructive advice?

You've only got two choices with the Palm OS if you must have a voice recorder - the Zire 72 or the T3. The T3 is about $100 more than the Zire 72. I don't know what your budget is but I'd buy a T3 rather than a Zire 72 if you can afford it. I'm not impressed with the build quality of the Zire 72.

Here, here. I agree with Jim.
between the two I would pick the T3. You might find good sales in the next couple of weeks. Also keep in mind that Palm might be releasing new Zire/Tungstune Palms next month. If so, you might want to wait to see what they come out with and what the prices might be on the old Palms, specifically the T3

Thanks for your replys. However, could one or both of you be more specific about the negatives with the Zire 72?

The 72 has a cheap and, some would say, flimsy, plastic case. It's painted and the paint starts rubbing off in a few weeks of use. The buttons and D-Pad are not only difficult to work with but there have been numerous reports of the buttons breaking. The screen seems to subject to cracking from even mild impacts, apparently from the lack of stiffness in the plastic casing. Those are just a few of the problems that I've seen or read about.

I believe that a Palm will be manhandle, if its made cheap it will break. and there goes your $299.00. But you should got to a store after reading all these posts and compare and see for yourself. Since most PDA's (floor samples) are also manhandle, you can see the wear and tear.

Thanks again for your input!
I guess my next move is to find a store that has an assortment of models and do some *hands on* research --- not easily doable when you live in Rural America.

im a owner of a zire72.so far... after a month and a half after buying it,i havent experienced any of the aforementioned negatives.whether it will hit me in months to come i dont know but atm,its perfect.processor and all.colour speed its just all marvellous.i might agree with ppl that if the zire72 is held on with sweaty palms, yea the "rubber-like" paint might peel off after absorbing much sweat, thats y im using a casing.
this zire72 attracts more chix to it than i do in class hahahaha and yea they like playing with the camera .ive taken many enjoyable videos and pictures with it at that spur of the moment.replaying these jsut makes me smile and thank the zire for it.the cracks on the button and stuff i dont see a possibility of it breaking unless hit upon a stone.the whole structure is compact and tight and solid.
the only negative i know lies with the camera though.its useless at night, and also has a 1-2 shutter lag.yep yep
this my review of it after ownership of this zire for almsot 2 months soon. :)

It seems unlikely that a member named Flowergirl would find this a compelling reason to buy a Zire 72. :) I'm glad things are going well with your 72 so far though.
