Hi all,

I have a beautiful linksys router and a pci card in one of my computers and the wireless thing is working great. What I can't figure out is why the linksys instant wireless network cf card (type II by the way) won't find a dhcp signal off the network. I don't claim by any stretch to be a networking expert, but my 'wired' card was working great, so I'm sure the 780 will talk to the network, just can't get it to use my internet connection or the wireless card.

Weird part is, the linksys utility shows a solid connect, I just can't do anything with it!

Thanks for your help!

I have mobile pro 800 v3.01 (core2.11) with a Linksys WPC11 v3 which uses same driver as compact flash version. I get the same problem. Link light shows connection, card registers with Linksys wireless access point but does not get assigned an IP address by dhcp server. Can set IP address manually but it cannot be pinged nor can it ping anything on network. Also I can see Received data rate fluctuating both Tx rate. I was going to buy compact flash to see if that would get around problem but now I think I'll wait.

Has anyone got the a mobile pro 800 or 780 to work with wireless ethernet (802.11a/b/g). I have wasted a lot of time with Linksys technical support who have not helped.

Here's what I've got running.

i have mp 780 and 880 both work fine with

Ethernet NP10T 10BaseT -ne2000
US Robotics Wireless (802.11b) -beta drivers on us robotics website
Cisco 340 series (802.11b) - drivers are on website. I am using version 2.22 I believe.

the only problem is I have to soft reset each time I turn off the power when I am running the US Robotics. The cisco card works wonderfully, plus it has nicer utilities. I bought it at: http://www.axiontech.com/cgi-local/prdtinfo.asp?prdt=NCCCPCM340

I am using a d-link router.

I think a pcmcia card for networking is better so you can use the compact flash for storage.
Now if I could only get yahoo messenger up an running and using terminal services on the 880. :>(

Good Luck

Hey Ryba,

Are you using the cisco card to syncronize your 780, for internet web surfing, or for both? Also, have you been able to deal with the secure web site issues on the 780? I have never been able to connect to secure sites with my 780, either on dialup or using my wired adapter, although I can surf no problem. I have done the 128 bit upgrade and other options as well, so I'm curious if the drivers for the cisco help with this.

Thanks

Thanks for info but I've just ordered an Orinoco silver card.
NEC support told me I needed drivers for CE 2.11 for my MP800 even though it had an upgraded ROM to CE 3.01.

Linksys say their drivers are for CE 3, I guess that means I've got a spare. I just hope the Orinoco works.

You have the same application as me re terminal services, I looked on the web for ages before finding the terminal services CE client on the Windows 2000 server CD (HPCRDP.exe).
I was just assuming terminal services client would work. Didn't think I would have to struggle with that too.
Have you tried the ActiveX tswebsetup for your windows 2000?
Failing that there is the CE client for VNConnector from VNC.

I'm interested the upgrade to 3.01 rom. Was this expensive and did you do it on your own? Does this mean you are running pocket internet explorer 4?
I haven't tried the ActiveX tswebsetup, I'll check it out. To run VNC on wince you have to download an older version. It works fine with the newest VNC server program on win2k and winxp. Here is the VNC wince link if you are interested:

scroll down and select the MIPS processor under Windows CE 2.X. Works great.

Guyturf: I too have tried the patch for 128-bit encryption. It is kind of useless since a lot of the finance sites require java-enabled + 128-bit. I have hear pocket IE 4 is much better. If microsoft was willing to deliver another service pack the problem could probably be solved. :)

I use the internet connection to surf and to sync. So much faster to sync this way. Since I use a wireless router at home I had to open up a port to connect via WINS protocol to the desktop. btw, batteries work great. thanks.

The ROM upgrade was factory fitted already when I bought the computer.
I could not tell you how it compares against earlier versions of CE in respect of IE. If I get the thing connected I will check out secure sites and post an update.
