I want a pocket pc for school and for media, the RZ is cheaper but the H1940/45 is more expensive and has more memory. Which is better value for the price? and can both watch video and play music?

Which is better value for the price? and can both watch video and play music? Lukaino 09-03-2004, 05:59 AM You know what? I thought I read a review that the RZ is slower than the H1945...not only that, but if you think about it, is 32 MB of RAM good for you? Possibly not. I have an H1945 right now (and a H2215). The H1945 is perfect. It's small & very fast. It is 3 times faster than the H2215 in many (but not all) graphics areas (so it is the same speed as the H2215 or 3 times faster). I use a 512 MB SD card where I store all my programs on so that leaves me plenty of extra memory to run apps/games. Does the RZ have a camera? It's hard for me to see anyone wanting a RZ for landscape viewing. You probably want to check out benchmark tests... Please, anybody, let me know if I am wrong... dams67 09-03-2004, 08:08 AM I quite agree with Lukaino. I had a 1940 (same version than the 1945), it was perfect for me: the size was just enough to go into my jacket (is one of the most important criteria in my opinion), the SD slot allowed me to add extra memory (And the 1945 already have 64Mo) and moreover the BT capability was interesting to browse Internet. But the most interesting think was the adequacy between the internal processor and the OS that allow the system to go very fast. For me one of the most perfect PDA in the world Now I have a 4150 just because I 'm somewhat a geek and I always want the newest equipment (the next will be the 3715???) drumsdb 09-03-2004, 11:04 AM Until 1 week ago I also had a 1945. However, mine crapped out on me...but luckily I purchased the extra service plan at Best Buy. Since they didnt' have any more 1945s in stock they had to give me a new one. **Best Buy's policy is to give you the new version of whatever you had that is comparable by features** Since they were charging considerable more for the 2215 than the 1945, they tried to pass of a new rz17xx which is the same price range as the 1945. However, the processer is MUCH slower, it doesn't have nearly as much memory nor does it have blue tooth capablities. I won the battle and left with a new 2215 (which I love cause of the CF slot) and it is a fast processor than the 1945 I had. I seem to get better performance out if it. Anyway, the moral of my story... make sure you know what features you need and/or are looking for...because the rz17**series is not a direct match for the 19** series. Not yet... at least. Danny NorseMan 09-03-2004, 11:31 AM wow best buy had a 2215 left? If you read my other post they told me not a single store in the USA carries it anymore as it is discontinued and well .... just read my post "is the ipaq a dying breed..." I was able to get a 2215 at Staples for $330 as they also told me its an "old" model that is a dying breed. I know of one guy in my office that just bought an old 1945. He got it at compusa on sale for only $255+tax! Considering that price and the junk rz1715 I'd buy the 1945 hands down! The only RX series I'm interested in is the rx3115 but the more i look at the specs the more i think i want to keep my "classic performance" 2215. but still unsure... the "digital entertainment" rz1715 IMHO is a total waste of money. The guy at best buy was pushing it sooooooo much on me. I kept telling him i needed Bluetooth and that the processor is too slow...and the price is not realistic ($280) when you can get a brand new in the box 1945 for less!!!! What did he know, he just kept saying "This is half the cost of a 2215 how can you pass on this!" Stay away from the rz1715 because its definitly no bang for your buck. yogifere 09-03-2004, 11:33 AM Does the h1940 have outdated software now like windows media 8 or is it 9? Can I do all the same stuff I can do on the 1940 as I can on the 1710? Also the 1710 can rotate it's screen, can the 1940? Can I customize the 1940's background? AnswerDude 09-03-2004, 11:52 AM WM2003SE on rz1715 provides some new features, but most built-in softwares are the same as in wm2003, here're some reviews http://www.pocketpccity.com/articles/2004/6/2004-6-15-Review-Windows-Mobile.html http://www.brighthand.com/article/Brighthand_Review_Windows_Mobile_SE?site=PPC http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/Dell_axim_X30.htm You can rotate screen on 1940 with 3rd party software but you need to restart the unit. You can customize 1940's background pretty much the same way as the new rz1715. I know you can download "today screens" from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/themes.mspx but not sure if that is what you mean. conipto 09-03-2004, 03:49 PM Originally posted by NorseMan Hmmmm, not sure. Here's my 1945's screen.. took me all of ten minutes to make a theme for it with the above program. Bill NorseMan 09-03-2004, 03:52 PM COOL, i wanted to change mine also - did u use your desktop to download that or did u just download it right to your 1945 conipto 09-03-2004, 04:01 PM It's a desktop driven program... basically a wizard type interface that you go through, real easy stuff, pick backgrounds, pick colors, etc, then it creates the .tsk file that you have to place in the windows folder (with Windows Mobile 2003, anyways - I think the program was originally designed for 2002). I got the screenshot through another program I downloaded from Microsoft that allows you to view and use your PPC from the desktop. It's real handy for me since I have all of my cabling wiretied in such a way that using it is incredibly difficult. I noticed he only linked downloadable themes in that URL above.. the generator is at: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/themegenerator.mspx and the desktop display tool is at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx#XSLTsection125121120120 I think..
