Hi all

I have downloaded Nroute from Garmin and have tried to get it running with my Garmin GPS2. This program is free for all persons who own Mapsource, which is good news for all us Ique owners.

My GPS2 works fine with Mapsource, so no comms issues. I have the 2's interface set to Garmin/Garmin, which is what Nroute wants.

Help! All that Nroute says is "Attempting to connect to GPS" although Nroute detects the GPS it wont connect.

Any tips?

Phil.

Is the map you are using unlocked for the GPS in question, or some map product that doesn't require unlocking?

Hi Anders,

The impression I got from reading the notes at the Garmin site where you download Nroute from was that mapsource owners got "free" usage of Nroute in addition to any GPS that they had already registered. I'll pop over there and have a look see. That would explain my symptoms though:(

Phil, have you indeed left Creepy Crawley now? Last we heard you were antipodean bound. If you have, any comments on life with the iQue 'down under' compared to life with it 'topside'?

Hi Bokkie,

I'm still here, but only for a few weeks as our buyer is just about to do the contract thing (I hope!!!).

I went over to Australia at the end of May, took my Ique.

I didnt have to worry about navigation at all, it was like magic with all the panic of being lost etc taken away by the Ique.

I will never again go anywhere I dont know without taking the Ique. It even impressed my wife who is a technophobe and never has any comment about any of my masses of gadgets.

Thats a top recommendation in itself!

Phil.

nRoute is indeed free, if you already have a previous version of nRoute, or if you have Mapsource.

But to use a map, that requires unlocking (like City Select), does indeed require that you have an unlock code entered, and that the code matches the particular GPS you use as a position sensor for nRoute.

Registering the GPS isn't enough. You must have bought, or used the second free code that comes with all such map products, for this particular GPS. So if you have the iQue, installed the Mapsource program as a free-bie to Palm Desktop for the iQue, and now topped it up with nRoute, then it does require that you use the second map unlock code for this GPS you intend to use with nRoute. Since your iQue can't deliver the data it takes.
On the other hand, the iQue can do much the same trick on its own...

That can take a while and it can be a pain in the proverbial. On the way out, will you press the button to demolish the old Crawley College building? It is an eyesore from my bedroom window! The new college up the road looks a bit more modern!;)
