I have my Axim 30 linked to my home network via the Wi-Fi card. Is it possible to actually browse the folders of my desktop PC on the PDA & vice-versa? I mean can the PDA be treated and behave as any other computer on the network?

Yes, once you activesync your axim to the desktop(and you can activesyc via wifi) the pocketpc will show up as a folder just like other folders in desktop file explorer. You can also see share network drive from the axim file explorer, here's guide(go to main page of this guide and it also has information about wifi activesync):

Thanks.

2 Questions: I created a persistent Active Sync connection & I can now access the SD storage card folder via My Computer on my desktop.
-But is it possible to map it as a network drive? I use an automated backup program for my laptop & would like to automate a backup process to the SD storage card. I tried using the Map network drive function on the desktop, but it doesn't seem to help. The pda also doesn't show up in my network workgroup computers.

Also, if I copy files to my SD card via My Computer is it the same process as copying the files directly to the SD card via a USB SD card reader. I don't want the PC to convert the word files to PDA format as it does when I copy via the active sync program.

--Activesync does not have ability to "sync" to storage card. You need 3rd party software such as MightySync,

I'm not sure if it will let you map as a drive, but you may be able to set it to automatically sync.

--No, it's not. If activesync is running and provides connection between pocketpc and desktop , some files (depending on the format) you copy will be converted by default. There's option on desktop activesync that will tell it not to convert format (Options>Rules>Conversion Settings>Desktop to Device). It's also slower than using card reader.
