I have just purchased an IPAQ 4150 to use for downloading emails from ukonline who are my provider.

I have managed to set up the POP3 account on my PDA succesfully, however I cannot receive or send any mails ! I keep getting the error " Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail settings are correct. Then , try to download again.

I have tried to delete the account , reload it etc etc. Changed the Authentication settings all without success.

I have tried the service provider but they dont support PDA's. HP cant give me an answer either. Any clues ? Is there a definative answer to this.

How are you connected to the internet?

Are you able to surf on your PDA?

What did the tech support folks at your ISP say?

The folks at my ISP said "We don't support PDA's"

I can connect to the internet successfully. I am connecting VIA T-Mobile (UK)GPRS using a Nokia 6230. I use bluetooth to connect to my mobile.

I can surf the internet with no problems.

Because you are connecting through T-mobile, is it possible that T-mobile blocks all ports except 80 for http? You will not get to pop3 (port 110) and smtp server (port 25) if T-mobile blocks these ports. It's also possible that you need to connect through ukonline to be able to send mail because of spam prevention on the isp part.

Thanks for your comments. I have proved the link via T-Mobile by using another Email provider.

I am able to download messages using ukonline at home using Outlook via ASDL. any other thoughts ?

Sorry for so many questions; I'm just trying to understand what's going on.

So you are unable to receive your email via your PDA/Cell phone combo.

I'd like to rule out the cell phone as the problem. You say you can get email via Outlook -- I assume that's on your computer.

Are you able to get your email on your PDA when it's connected to the internet via your ADSL connection?

My PDA does not connect direct to ADSL. It collects its mail from Outlook via the Sync software on my PC.

You need to see if you can get your email through your ADSL.

Try connecting through ActiveSync -- Under "options" then "rules" make sure that internet pass through is enabled.

Then when you connect your PDA and computer, try getting to a web page (to make sure the connection works), then try to get your email.

At least when you are tyring to get the inbox set up, you won't burn through cell minutes any more...
