Ok, here is my situation -

I use a Palm Vx now and I want to upgrade to a Palm with a good Color screen and expandability. I have a Targus keyboard to use with my Palm Vx right now, and its cool cuz its compact, but it comes detached easily and doesn't support the Palm Vx's weight real well.

So I like the Clie's built in keyboard.

Anyways...there is this young lady at work who just graduated. And she received an NR-70 and doesn't want it. She can't return it to best buy since its been several months. It is sitting on her desk, in the box ENTICING ME. It has not been used at all, except by me to play with it a little.

It comes with a Best Buy warranty also, which is transferrable.

Think its worth getting? For $350 or $300?

But I am not sure about the whole memory stick thing. I would like to be able to take the memory stick and transfer it to my computer...but is that possible? Maybe some type of USB or floppy drive converter?

And are there any well known problems with the NR-70's? I read somewhere that the screens get cracked easily. Damn, I have dropped my Palm Vx a couple of times and it has held up pretty well. I think that the leather case I have helps too. Of course, dropping any PDA from above 2 inches is bad.

I would appreciate any advice guys regarding this product!! Likes, Dislikes, etc.

Thanks!

I think that the NR70 is one of the absolute best PDAs out there (just behind the NX70v). I don't know where you've heard of the broken screens, because I have only heard good reprts on how durable they are. Never heard of a broken screen in an NR70 in my life (although it probably could happen if you tried hard enough). You may want to look on eBay for prices. A friend of mine just bought an NR70v from eBay for around $350, but they have gone down since. With a little looking, you may be able to get an NR70 for less than $200.

I beg to differ. I think it would be very difficult to find an nr70 for under 200, or even 245 dollars, even on ebay.
If I were you, I would go for the nr70.
I agree with little-man, I have no idea were you possibly heard of an nr70(v) with a broken screen, in my opinion they are the most durable pda screens out there(or just really well protected).
You can get memeroy stick converters for floppy, usb, serial, etc., might put you back around 15-20$. Memory sticks are about to get cheaper and larger when they release the 512mb stick.
Pros and cons overall:
Screen: Large, bright, very good resolution, virtual graffiti(means skins, graffiti lines, fullscreen programs, etc.)
Keyboard: Ok, it's small, but then again, yeeha!
Jog dial/back button: excellent, makes navigating one handed perfectly glorious
Mp3: Don't know, are you gonna use it?
Remote commander: Again, are you gonna use it?
Mem stick: Storage, bluetooth, gps.. what do you want?
It depends what you want. If you want something a little larger than your palm, but packed with stuff, get it

you can buy a refurb from sonystyle for $329. people pay way to much for them on ebay. another 2 months and they will drop lower. might even be worth waiting till after christmas and spending an extra 150 - 200 bucks over the price of an nr and get an nx60 or nx70.

It is not necessary to buy a Memory Stick adapter, your sync cradle will give you access to stick when you start MSImport. Your stick will appear as an external drive to the computer. You may use regular desktop actions to work with files on the stick when MSImport is running.

Hey guys thanks for all the input.

A few questions about the sony memory stick:

So, since the Clie has 16MB of ram, if I get a 64MB memory stick, and I have like 4MB on the Clie free, can I run programs off of the memory stick?

I know its slow, or do I have to transfer them to the Clie everytime I want to use a program. So say I have a bunch of programs that stay on the Palm (12 MB), then I have 64MB of programs on the memory stick. If I want to use one of those programs on the memory stick, how do I expedite that? Does Clie know to copy it automatically? Like, if I accessed the memory stick? Or do I need to install, then use, then uninstall from the Clie?

Sorry if this sounds confusing!

Also, I notice there are two types of sony sticks - black and purple, signifying the old and new. I guess the new purple ones have some type of magic gate copyright protection stuff. Anyone have experience with that? Does that mean I will have to check my mp3's in and out, or is that only for mp3's encoded with magic gate (or similar) copy protection?

Thanks again guys!

Yes, you will be able to launch stuff directly from the stick, but you will need to get a program for it, most third party launchers should work. You don't actually need a magicgate(white) mem stick to play mp3s, blue work fine.

I can run most programs of the memory stick without any add on software. If you make a directory on the memory stick called "PALM\Launcher" copy the program into to it and then select 'Card' from the home page all programs you have copied will have their icons displayed select Icon in the normal way.
