I've had rev 3 installed for maybe 3 weeks. During that time, my iQue displayed unusual behavior. The touchscreen became unresponsive. Buttons still worked, but you cant write anything with the buttons. The GPS portion still worked, if you didnt want to go anywhere as the touchpad did not work. Soft rebooting temporarily helped for 10 seconds.
Now, soft or hard reboots brings up the Palm logo for a fraction of a second, then the screen fades to black. Apparently there is a malfunction in the power circuit. The green power light does not illuminate when in the charging cradle. I am supremely disappointed. I really like this unit, but its extreme fragility and high failure rate makes depending on it a crapshoot. Its demise may not be at all related to rev3, but that was the last change I made before the funky behavior and its apparent death.
It was last RMA'ed in Jan 04. Im probably out of warranty and out of luck.
So, does this sound like a battery failure, or is this just a $500 paperweight?

I would like to hear from other users who may have had better luck before investing another wad of hard earned after tax dollars in another iQue.

I may buy into a Palm T3 for my business needs and buy a separate GPS for my car.

If the soft reset didn't cure your problem, try a hard reset then report back. It's way to soon to throw in the towel.

He does state he did 'soft' and 'hard' reboots already.......

Both hard and soft resets go no further than the briefly illuminated screen with Palm logo, then fade to black :( . This is the 3rd unit I've had and it seemed to work fine with rev 2. The upgrade to rev 3 may not have had anything to do with my current problems  , but it was the last change I made.
Actually, I just dug up my purchase papers, and I received my unit in December 03, so I am still covered under Garmin's 1 year warranty. Fortunately, all my notes, documents, phone numbers, etc are backed up on the SD card and again on my desktop computer Palm Desktop :p. I hope the newer manufactured units are less prone to failure.
Due to the relative high expense of this unit and the data I carry on it, I handle it with great care. Its always protected in an EB Slipiper case. Dang, it, and the ebook I was reading was just getting really interesting.....

I tried setting the unit in the recharging/sync cradle immediately ofter a softboot, and I also tried a USB recharging synch cord so I could access the reset hole while the unit was plugged in and receiving power. Fade to black in both cases. Thanks for suggesting it tho, was worth a try.

Partial success. I did a hard reset with the usb charging cord plugged in. A NO answer to "erase all data" faded to black.
A YES answer started the unit up, but unfortunately, the touch screen is not responding, so tapping the screen at the Welcome, 1. remove stylus and
2. Use the stylus to tap anywhere to continue, does not work.

More tinkering to follow.......

After upgrading to R3 I did see one of the symptoms - fade-to-black after the soft reset that is required after the first hotsync/restore following a hard reset. It may or may not be related to R3 but I am fairly sure I did a hard reset with R2 and did not have a problem with the restore. Likewise your problem may not be related.

But read on if you use LauncherX. The fix for my problem was to remove the LauncherX files from my backup directory, hotsync, soft reset as requested, then re-install (via Install Tool) the missing LauncherX files, in my case just LauncherX.prc and LXOS5NXLubakL6.prc.

Thanks for the info. I am not using LauncherX, but the standard display. Garmin Tech Support sent me an RMA number. This will be my 3rd RMA.
