Hi all, I just bought a IPAQ 4150. I have been fiddling around with the PDA wireless settings to connect it to the internet.
I have been able to connect to the network (at the connectivity icon it says The Internet Wireless Card and 4 green bars) Except I cannot connect to the internet!
The settings are: Data Encryption enabled, network Authentication not enabled, Key is provided for me automatically not enable, NEtwork access using IEEE 802.1X not enabled.
Can anyone help me out please?

...you can connect to the network does that mean you get a valid IP address (NOT a 169.X.X.X address), and can ping other hosts on the network?

http://www.cam.com/vxutil.html
If so, look at your Connection Manager settings...
http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003/Connection_Manager/ConnectionManager.html
If you don't get a valid IP address and you can't ping other hosts on the network, check to see if the ESSID/SSID is correct and the WEP/WPA key on the PocketPC match exactly the WEP/WPA key on the wireless access point. If your using WEP versus WPA, I recommend using a hex representation of the key on the PocketPC...
http://www.warewolflabs.com/portfolio/programming/wepskg/wepskg.html
You can also disable WEP/WPA temporarily on both the access point and PocketPC to test...
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/wireless_encrypt.htm
This is presuming you have a wireless access point on your local network. If its an ad-hoc connection to another PC look at these two ad-hoc guides for help. Modify as needed for your situation...

Thanks for your help so far Sooner Al,
OK, I've fixed the connection manager settings... still have problems.
I might not have a valid IP address but I don't know how to check if I do, I have problems ActiveSyncing? I've partnered it once, but once I put the PDA in the cradle it goes to connecting... and never actually connects.
I have a wireless access point (wireless router connected to a cable modem), not using Ad hoc.
Maybe I have trouble with this step:
If you don't get a valid IP address and you can't ping other hosts on the network, check to see if the ESSID/SSID is correct and the WEP/WPA key on the PocketPC match exactly the WEP/WPA key on the wireless access point.
I'm not sure how to check if the settings are the same.
Thanks so far,
Rollyko

I had this problem with my 4155 when my wireless access point was assigning a local (10.0.x) IP address rather than the true IP address.
Try assigning an IP address manually.

What should I use as the IP in that case?

First you find out all the IP address of your connection.
See this thread

You need to give a unique last digit to th Ipaq's IP address but everything else should be the same as the PCs on your local area network

Where am I supposed to enter in the manually assigned IP's etc..?

Hit the double arrow (=/-)x network icon at the top,
then Settings->Advanced-> Network Card->IpaqWLAN Wireless Adapter->Use specific IP address
Then fill in everything on the first page and the DNS and Alt DNS addresses on the Name Servers page

Would this be the right information to input?
I got this from ipconfig:
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:
Connection -specific DNS Suffix: :mshome
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
IP Address: fe80::209::5bff::fec9::68a5%4
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunnelling Psuedo-Interface:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: mshome
IP Address: fe80::5efe::192.168.0.2%2
Default Gateway:
And that's all it says?
Nothing about Alternate DNS's and things like that

Did you use ipconfig.exe /all?

You should fill in the specific IP address into the Ipaq WLAN wireless Adapter settings with the exact values that the ipconfig gave you except for the first value which should be exactly the same except for the last digit after the last decimal pont. This digit must be different, say .21 instead of .2.
Then with all the other lines for the address filled in the same , enter OK until you get back to your Today page, go to your Ipaq Wireless adapter page (green), turn it on-> green lashing light and then see if you can get Pocket Internet Explorer to work.

What should I use for that last digit? Do you add the first digit next to the last digit?
I'm quite confused :(
And do I need to worry about Alt DNS?
Rollyko

I cannot explain it any other way other than to say copy every field you have (if you do not have Alt DNS that is OK) exactly the same. Change the 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.21 and do all of the steps on the last posting and try it.

OK, I've done all that, tested it out, and it says:
Cannot connect:
In order to connect to the internet you will need to configure a Proxy.
What should I set as a proxy, and where?
Sorry for so many questions :(

Sorry I cannot advise as to how to set it up via a proxy as my ISP doesn'y use one. Perhaps AnswerDude can help or your ISP,
